Race Report

RACE-1 THE FUZHOU RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (180)

1 Fit Lite (B Yamzon) -Leaving the 1300 metres shifted out slightly and brushed with 7 Wing Wo which at the same time shifted in slightly.
2 Right Right Right (C F Chan) -Raced wide without cover from the 700 metres. Near the 500 metres had to be eased away from the heels of 5 Turquoise Square which shifted out slightly.
3 Ines Sky (D Barros) -Rider reported his mount never travelled comfortably at any stage of the race and blundered on a number of occasions. As he had concern’s with his mount’s action he desisted from placing 3 Ines Sky under pressure and elected to ease it out of the race from the 800 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer M C Tam was informed that he would be required to present 3 Ines Sky to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough examination on Monday, 15 March 2021 and in addition the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
4 Sepreeding (M Tanaka) -Was marginally slow to begin.
5 Turquoise Square (K H Yu) -Leaving the 500 metres had to be steadied outwards when awkwardly placed on the heels of 7 Wing Wo. Leaving the 200 metres shifted out under pressure and had to be corrected by its rider.
6 Victory Supreme (F Henrique) -Was fractious in the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination. Acting on veterinary advice that the gelding was lame in the left hind leg, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 2:03pm. Trainer G Allendorf was informed that 6 Victory Supreme will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that a veterinary certificate is produced and in addition, in view of the barrier manners the gelding will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial.
7 Wing Wo (C L Cheung) -Leaving the 1300 metres shifted in slightly and brushed with 1 Fit Lite which at the same time shifted out slightly.
8 Joyful Bear (Y M Choi) -Was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the barriers at the request of the rider and passed fit to race. The Stewards questioned Jockey Y M Choi in regards to his riding of 8 Joyful Bear from the 600 metres. Jockey Y M Choi stated that he was instructed to jump out and obtain a position near the running rail should circumstances permit and in the home straight, once his mount was balanced, to use the whip over the final 200 metres. He added that on the way to the barriers his mount blundered and as he had concerns with its action, he requested a veterinary examination behind the barriers following which 8 Joyful Bear was cleared to race. He added during the race his mount was not striding out freely and dipped on a number of occasions. He further added as he had concerns with his mount’s action he desisted from placing his mount under pressure from the 600 metres, however stated in the home straight after riding his mount hands and heels and applying the whip to comply with his instructions, 8 Joyful Bear did not respond and failed to finish its race off. Whist the Stewards took into account his concerns over his mount’s action, they noted Jockey Y M Choi’s explanation, however he was nevertheless advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to place his mount under pressure sooner than he did on this occasion and he was reminded of his obligations to ride all his mounts in a manner so as to leave no room for query. A post race veterinary examination at the jockey’s request failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer M C Tam was informed that he would be required to present 8 Joyful Bear to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Monday, 15 March 2021.
9 Luen On Prodigy (L Corrales) -Leaving the 200 metres was obliged to alter course outwards away from the heels 5 Turquoise Square which shifted out before being corrected by its rider.
