Race Report

RACE-6 THE JILIN RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (191)

4 Modena Best (L Corrales) -Raced wide rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Ocean Warrior (C L Cheung) -Had to be checked over the concluding stages.
7 Fair Dream (Y M Choi) -Raced wide without cover throughout. The Stewards questioned Jockey Y M Choi with regards to his ride on 7 Fair Dream in the early stages, in particular as to whether there was an opportunity for him to take up a position with cover behind 3 Chinese Hero leaving the 1400 metres. Jockey Y M Choi stated that his mount was having its first start over 1500 metres today and he was instructed from the wide draw to go forward and obtain a handy position. He stated after beginning well, he rode his mount forward in the early stages to comply with his instructions and added as that 7 Fair Dream has a big stride, he was reluctant to steady his mount and come back to a position behind 3 Chinese Hero leaving the 1400 metres and therefore he elected to go with his mount’s momentum and allow it to stride forward and attempt to take up a handy position. He added that on entering the back straight as runners had improved to his inside, he was caught three wide without cover and in his opinion due to the slow tempo of the race, he was unable to obtain a position closer to the running rail and raced in a three wide position without cover for the remainder. Whilst the Stewards noted his explanation and deemed his actions reasonable under the circumstances, he was nevertheless advised that in future he would be expected to show initiative when opportunities arise to avoid covering unnecessary ground. He was further reminded of his obligations to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.
9 Pearl Lucky (B Yamzon) -Hampered by 2 Half Lamma Boss on jumping away.
10 Ronson (W L Ho) -Was marginally slow to begin.
11 Satono Eternal (S Ladjadj) -Was marginally slow to begin.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident over the concluding stages where 6 Ocean Warrior was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 Half Lamma Boss (W H Lao), 3 Chinese Hero (K H Yu), 6 Ocean Warrior (C L Cheung) and 10 Ronson (W L Ho). Jockey K H Yu the rider of 3 Chinese Hero pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of 6 Ocean Warrior which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey K H Yu’s license to ride in races was suspended for two racemeetings to cover the meetings of Friday, 11 June and Saturday, 19 June 2021. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his disciplinary record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
