Race Report

RACE-2 THE SHAUKEIWAN (DIV.2) RATING 60-35 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (281)
1 Trillion King (K H Yu) -Raced fiercely in the early stages. For some distance approaching and passing the 400 metres bumped with 7 Master Of Mars on a number of occasions when that runner attempted to improve to the outside of 2 Flash Shadow.
3 We Love Macau (L Corrales) -Jumped away awkwardly. Near the 500 metres was checked. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was lame in the right foreleg. Trainer J Lau was informed that 3 We Love Macau will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that a veterinary certificate is produced.
4 Global Justice (C L Cheung) -Near the 500 metres was checked.
5 Ronson (Y M Choi) -Stood flat footed as the start was effected losing considerable ground. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that in view of the barrier manners of 5 Ronson, the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Dutch Shell (F Henrique) -Was marginally slow to begin. For some distance leaving the 1300 metres when the pace of the race slowed raced fiercely when awkwardly placed on the heels of 1 Trillion King.
7 Master Of Mars (D Barros) -For some distance approaching and passing the 400 metres bumped with 1 Trillion King when attempting to establish clear running to the outside of 2 Flash Shadow.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards an opportunity to review the patrol footage of the start to establish whether 5 Ronson (Y M Choi) was afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected 5 Ronson stood flat footed of its own accord and as such the Stewards declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 500 metres where 3 We Love Macau and 4 Global Justice were checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 3 We Love Macau (L Corrales), 4 Global Justice (C L Cheung) and 6 Dutch Shell (F Henrique). Jockey F Henrique the rider of 6 Dutch Shell pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 500 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 4 Global Justice which had to be checked and was in turn taken in onto 3 We Love Macau which also had to be checked. Jockey F Henrique was issued a momentary fine of HK$10,000 in lieu of a two racemeeting suspension. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his disciplinary record, the degree of interference and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards inquired into an incident approaching and passing the 400 metres where 7 Master Of Mars and 1 Trillion King made contact on a number of occasions. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Trillion King (K H Yu) and 7 Master Of Mars (D Barros). It was established that approaching the 400 metres 7 Master Of Mars when awkwardly placed on the heels of 2 Flash Shadow attempted to establish clear running to the outside of that runner where there was insufficient room and as a result bumped 1 Trillion King on two occasions. 7 Master Of Mars then raced in restricted room for some distance between 1 Trillion King which attempted to hold its position and 2 Flash Shadow which shifted out slightly under pressure. As a result 7 Master Of Mars had to be steadied inwards across the heels of 2 Flash Shadow on entering the home straight. After considering all the circumstances, Jockey D Barros the rider of 7 Master Of Mars was issued a severe reprimand for attempting to obtain clear running where there was insufficient room and in doing so made unnecessary contact with 1 Trillion King. In addition, Jockey K H Yu the rider of 1 Trillion King was also advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
