Race Report

RACE-1 THE LANTAU RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (302)

1 Dutch Shell (F Henrique) -Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider reported that rounding the first turn he was looking to obtain a position behind 4 King Of Champions which would have afforded his mount cover, however, when the pace of the race slowed and as runners had improved to his inside he was unable to take up that position. He added, he then considered improving forward, however as 4 King Of Champions which was racing fiercely improved with him, he then elected to steady his mount and allow it to race where it was comfortable, albeit in a three wide position. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Master Of Mars (D Barros) -From the 200 metres was inclined to hang out under pressure. Was unable to be ridden out over the concluding when continuing to hang out under pressure. Trainer C F Chan was informed that a warning was issued to 2 Master Of Mars in relation to its racing manners.
3 Fortune Winner (C L Cheung) -For some distance approaching and passing the 1300 metres raced ungenerously.
4 King Of Champions (L Corrales) -Was slow to begin. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.
5 Sepreeding (B Yamzon) -As the start was effected reared of its own accord and became cast in its barrier stall. A veterinary examination of 5 Sepreeding revealed that the gelding had suffered a catastrophic injury to its head.
7 Express Pony (W H Lao) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Luen On Prodigy (S Nakano) -Was slow to begin. Near the 500 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 4 King Of Champions. Near the 250 metres was obliged to shift in across the heels of 6 Mountain Eagle to obtain clear running.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards an opportunity to review the official video patrol to ascertain whether 5 Sepreeding (B Yamzon) was afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected 5 Sepreeding reared in the barriers of its own accord and then became cast. As the Stewards were satisfied that 5 Sepreeding had been afforded a fair start, correct weight was semaphored on the judge’s placings.
