Race Report

RACE-2 THE SHUNDE RATING 40-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1800 METRES (336)
This race was rescheduled to start at 5:05PM.

2 Fortune Wai Wai (K H Yu) -Shortly after the start brushed with 10 Luen On Success.
3 King Of Champions (B Yamzon) -Prior to the race, Trainer P Leyshan informed the Stewards that from the wide draw today, he would be instructing Jockey B Yamzon to go forward at the start and take up a handy position should circumstances permit. Brushed with 8 Franklin Lane on jumping away. Rider reported his mount failed to handle today’s going. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer P Leyshan was informed that he would be required to present 3 King Of Champions to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 1 August 2021.
4 Superlative Choice (M Tanaka) -Rider reported his mount traveled well, however in the home straight did not respond to his riding and in his opinion was disappointing. A post race swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Fair Dream (C L Cheung) -Raced wide without cover until leaving the 1400 metres.
7 Golden Wai (D Barros) -Checked leaving the 1000 metres. On entering the home straight shifted out around the heels of 6 Fair Dream to obtain clear running and brushed 10 Luen On Success.
8 Franklin Lane (W H Lao) -Brushed with 3 King Of Champions on jumping away. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Honey Biscuit (Y M Choi) -Near the 1500 metres had to be steadied when momentarily racing in restricted room between 2 Fortune Wai Wai and 4 Superlative Choice which shifted out slightly when making the turn awkwardly. As the Stewards deemed this a racing incident, no action was taken.
10 Luen On Success (F Henrique) -Shortly after the start brushed with 2 Fortune Wai Wai. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, shifted out slightly and then had to be steadied away from the heels of 6 Fair Dream which when inclined to lay in, shifted in whilst being ridden along when not fully clear. Jockey C L Cheung the rider of 6 Fair Dream was issued with a severe reprimand and was advised that he is to ensure he is sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground at all times. On entering the home straight was brushed by 7 Golden Wai which shifted out around of 6 Fair Dream to obtain clear running.
11 Joyful Commander (J B Hamel) -Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the inside barrier partition.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the 1000 metres where 7 Golden Wai was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 7 Golden Wai (D Barros) and 6 Fair Dream (C L Cheung). Jockey C L Cheung the rider of 6 Fair Dream pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 7 Golden Wai which had to be checked and lost ground. Jockey C L Cheung was issued a monetary fine of HK$11,000 in lieu of a 1 racemeeting suspension. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Cheung’s guilty plea, his disciplinary record and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
