Race Report

RACE-2 THE LEOPARDSTOWN RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (42)

1 Colonel Mordaunt (L Corrales) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Fortune Winner (C L Cheung) -Near the 1300 metres when racing fiercely and proving difficult to settle had to be eased when momentarily tightened for room between 1 Colonel Mordaunt and 9 For Community which was taken out by 11 Wo Hero which shifted out whilst being ridden along. Jockey W H Lao the rider of 11 Wo Hero was issued a severe reprimand and was advised that in similar circumstances, he would be required to stop riding and straighten his mounts.
3 Half Lamma Rainbow (K H Yu) -Raced wide without cover throughout. Near the 400 metres when weakening had to be steadied away from the heels of 10 Joy Joy Partners which was taken out by 2 Fortune Winner which shifted out to improve when not fully clear. Jockey C L Cheung the rider of 2 Fortune Winner was issued a severe reprimand and advised that he would be expected to be sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground at all times. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Chak Chak (F Henrique) -Was marginally slow to begin.
9 For Community (Y M Choi) -Was checked near the 250 metres.
10 Joy Joy Partners (S H Huang) -Bumped with 12 Golden Victory on jumping away. Leaving the 300 metres was momentarily eased away from the heels of 6 Chak Chak which shifted out to improve.
11 Wo Hero (W H Lao) -Near the 250 metres shifted out under pressure.
12 Golden Victory (A A Rivera) -Bumped with 10 Joy Joy Partners on jumping away.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 250 metres where 9 For Community was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 9 For Community (Y M Choi), 11 Wo Hero (W H Lao) and 2 Fortune Winner (C L Cheung). Jockey W H Lao the rider of 11 Wo Hero pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 250 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of 9 For Community which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey W H Lao was issued a monetary fine of HK$2,500 in lieu of a one racemeeting suspension. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards issued both Jockeys W H Lao and Y M Choi a reprimand for a verbal altercation in the Jockeys Room after the race and they were told to ensure they act in a professional manner at all times.
