Race Report

RACE-5 THE COLOGNE RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (37)

3 Sheng Tong Glory (W H Lao)- Raced very fiercely through the early and middle stages. Approaching the 700 metres clipped the heels of 1 Who Loves Sushi and almost dislodged the rider.
5 Hostwin Apollo (C L Cheung)- Slow into stride. At the 1200 metres had to be eased when placed in restricted room by 3 Sheng Tong Glory. Approaching the 700 metres had to be restrained from the heels of 3 Sheng Tong Glory, which lost ground after clipping heels.
6 Golden Unbeatable (M Tanaka)- Was marginally slow to begin and became unbalanced when buffeted between 9 Ocean Warrior and 8 Turquoise Square which shifted out.
9 Ocean Warrior (S Nakano)- Race three wide without cover. Jockey S Nakano was severely reprimanded, first offence for failing to weigh in after the race.
10 Star Of Phoenix (K H Yu)- Passing the 200 metres had to change course to the outside of 8 Turquoise Square to obtain clear running.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 700 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Who Loves Sushi (Apprentice A Liu), in the presence of his Master Trainer G Allendorf) and 3 Sheng Tong Glory (W H Lao). The Stewards found Apprentice A Liu the rider of 1 Who Loves Sushi guilty of a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approaching the 700 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 3 Sheng Tong Glory which clipped that gelding’s heels, had to be checked and almost dislodged the rider. Apprentice A Liu’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings dates to be advised. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Apprentice A Liu’s relatively inexperience, the degree of interference and the level of carelessness. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
