Race Report

RACE-1 THE RODRIGO RODRIGUES (TURF) (Div.1) RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1500 METRES (98)

1 Sheng Tong Master (W H Lao)- Raced keenly and three wide without cover until near the 1000 metres.
2 Fortune Wai Wai (L Corrales)- Passing the 1250 metres was tightened for room, had to be restrained and lost its position (see inquiry). Passing the 600 metres had to be steadied (see inquiry). Beaten favorite. Rider reported that the disappointing performance of 2 Fortune Wai Wai was attributed to his mount striking some interference. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken for analysis.
3 Golden Wai (S H Huang)- Passing the 1250 metres was tightened for room and was steadied (see inquiry). Was held up for some distance approaching the 400 metres.
5 Wealthy Sun (Apprentice A Liu)- Commenced a little awkwardly unbalancing the rider. Hung out rounding the turn into the back straight.
7 Run On Perfection (B Yamzon)- When racing keenly near the 900 metres had to be steadied from the heels of 11 Restarted. Near the 100 metres Jockey B Yamzon was accidently struck by the whip of S H Huang rider of 3 Golden Wai resulting him dropping his whip.
9 Warrior Spirit (C L Cheung)- Was slow to begin (2L).
10 Mountain Eagle (Y M Choi)- Was held up for short distance at the entrance of the home straight before changing course to the inside of 8 Beautiful Beach to obtain a clear running.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident passing the 1250 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 Fortune Wai Wai (L Corrales), 3 Golden Wai (S H Huang) and 8 Beautiful Beach (K H Yu). Jockey K H Yu the rider of 8 Beautiful Beach pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that passing the 1250 metres, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 2 Fortune Wai Wai, resulting in 2 Fortune Wai Wai being tightened for room, having to be restrained and losing its position, and 3 Golden Wai being tightened for room and having to be steadied. In lieu of a two racemeeting suspension, Jockey K H Yu will be fined 50% of his total earnings for the two upcoming racemeetings in which he rides. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account the degree of interference, the level of carelessness and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards inquired into an incident passing the 600 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 Fortune Wai Wai (L Corrales) and 8 Beautiful Beach (K H Yu). It was established that Jockey K H Yu the rider of 8 Beautiful Beach, when being restrained from the heels of 7, shifted out when not fully clear of 2 Fortune Wai Wai, resulting in that gelding being steadied. Jockey K H Yu was issued a severe reprimand.
