Race Report

RACE-2 THE CHEKIANG RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1050 METRES (104)

1 River Unicorn (S Nakano)- When questioned as to why he came to the outside of 6 Sculling Brothers approaching the 200 metres, Jockey S Nakano explained that although a run had presented between 8 Best Of Friends and 6 Sculling Brothers at that point, he did not believe there was full running for him and he was of the view that 6 Sculling Brothers was giving ground and shifting in, and for this reason he elected to come to the outside of that gelding.
2 Sheng Tong Express (K F Choi)- Raced wide without cover. Performed below market expectation. Rider reported that after being caught wide his mount was a beaten horse in the straight and made an unusual respiratory noise. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken for analysis. Trainer W K Lam was informed that he would be required to present 2 Sheng Tong Express to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination and to include an endoscopic examination on Saturday, 14 January 2023
11 Everlasting Praise (M Alvarez)- Refused to jump when the gate was released, lost considerable ground and tailed the field throughout. Due to the gelding’s poor record in its recent starts, Trainer K M Chin was informed that 11 Everlasting Praise will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in two consecutive official Barrier Trials.
