RACE-1 THE RECIFE RATING 40-10 (CLASS 5) 1510 METRES (238)

2 Captain Brentford (C Perkins) - Raced ungenerously, threw its head up and shifted out, commencing the turn out of the straight and then continued to race ungenerously for some considerable distance.
9 Sheng Tong Master (K F Choi) - Performed below market expectations. Rider stated that his mount did not appreciate the kickback. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 Pay Me (M Alvarez) - Was slow into stride. Jockey M Alvarez was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted upon 10 Pay Me, and if he could have settled in a more forward position in the early stages. He stated that he had ridden the gelding previously, and on that occasion, he had tried to ride it in a more forward position however 10 Pay Me did not finish off the race when ridden in that manner. He said that he studied the film of 10 Pay Me’s previous start when it won and endeavored today to ride it in a similar manner. He said he commenced to place his mount under significant pressure at the 600 metres, and did not want to pressure it before this point as he believed he would have been taken very wide on the track. He added that he changed his whip to his right hand at the top of the straight when 1 Danish Star appeared to be shifting out and he was of the view that that gelding may make contact with his mount. He highlighted that passing the 200 metres his mount shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip and then laid out, resulting in him having to stop riding and correct his mount. Stewards noted M Alvarez’s comments.
12 Harvest Day (Y M Choi) - Brushed the side of the barrier stall on jumping away and was then bumped by 8 Top Mountainlegend. When the pace slackened approaching the 1100 metres, threw its head up when being restrained from heels of 7 Rose Hero.
