RACE-5 THE BELEM RATING 35-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1800 METRES (247)

1 Winnie Star (L Corrales) - Commenced awkwardly. Rider L Corrales reported that he had been instructed to settle his mount at the rear of the field and ride it where it was comfortable. He said after jumping away he shifted his mount behind runners to obtain a position on the rail and his mount became unbalanced and struck the running rail. He said it then commenced to make an unusual respiratory noise, and for this reason he was reluctant to put it under greater pressure in the back straight. He said 1 Winnie Star made a very abnormal sound near the 700 metres and he thought it may have bled and then it continued to make an abnormal noise for the remainder of the race. He said for this reason he did not ride the gelding out in his usual manner, and that he reported his concerns to the vet after pulling up. Veterinary surgeon reported 1 Winnie Star is a diagnosed roarer. Trainer W L Ho was informed that he would be required to present 1 Winnie Star to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 28 May 2023. Beaten in excess of 18 lengths, it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in and official Barrier Trial.
7 Georgian Ease (Y M Choi) - Raced keenly through the middle stages. Shifted out when under pressure in the straight. Returned to Scale having lost the right front plate.
9 Joyful Commander (K H Yu) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer M C Tam was informed that 9 Joyful Commander had been beaten in excess of 53 lengths, it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in and official Barrier Trial.
