Race Report

RACE-1 THE CHESTERFIELD RATING 45-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1350 METRES (91)

1 Alway Better (Apprentice Y M Choi) –On jumping away was hampered and became tightened between 3 Final Impression (D Chong) and 8 Hostwin Treasure (R Curatolo) which shifted in slightly. Shortly after the start shifted in slightly and made contact with 3 Final Impression. Apprentice Jockey Y M Choi was fined the sum of HK$1000 for dropping his whip near the 1000 metres.
2 Galaxy Dragon (L Corrales)- Raced three wide without cover.
3 Final Impression (D Chong) –Fell approaching the 1200 metres was examined by Veterinary Surgeon who failed to find any significant abnormality. Rider D Chong was subsequently stood down from his remaining engagement by the Club Doctor and sent to hospital for further observation. He must produce a medical clearance prior to riding again.
4 Modena Creation (C Perkins) –Approaching the 1200 metres was inconvenienced by 3 Final Impression (D Chong) which had fallen.
5 River Dream (W T Pao) –Refused to jump when the gates were released and took no part in the event. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has passed a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
7 Gold and Silver (L Salles) – After passing the 400 metres was hampered by 10 I'M Unique which was laying out.
8 Hostwin Treasure (R Curatolo) -Hung out badly rounding the turn near the 1200 metres. Thereafter raced four wide without cover throughout the event.
10 I'm Unique (J Cordero) –Was resaddled on arrival at the barriers. Dipped after jumping away. Laid out rounding the home turn hampering 7 Gold and Silver (L Salles). After passing the 200 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed between runners. Shortly after straightening shifted out and brushed 7 Gold and Silver.
11 Road To Victory (B Yamzon) –Was slow to begin. After passing the 400 metres had to be steadied to avoid the heels of 7 Gold and Silver which shifted out.
12 One From Many (W L Ho) –Was slightly slow to begin and then hampered by 9 Tiger Exceed (H Lam) which shifted in on jumping away. Approaching the 1200 metres was hampered by the fallen 3 Final Impression (D Chong).

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the reason for 3 Final Impression (D Chong) falling approaching the 1200 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey H Lam rider of 9 Tiger Exceed and Apprentice Jockey Y M Choi rider of 1 Alway Better and Jockey D Chong the rider of 3 Final Impression. It was established that approaching the 1200 metres 1 Alway Better which was having its 2nd race start tonight ducked in abruptly, unbalancing its rider, and despite the efforts of its rider to straighten his mount, shifted in further and this resulted in 3 Final Impression which was racing back and to the inside of 1 Alway Better clipping that gelding’s heels and falling. As Stewards determined that the incident was cause by the racing manners of 1 Alway Better and that Apprentice Y M Choi made every effort to correct his mount in the first instance, no action was taken against Apprentice Y M Choi, however Trainer W T Lai was advised that 1 Alway Better must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial at which time it must race tractably
