Race Report

RACE-6 THE BUFFALO RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1350 METRES (254)

1 Red Dragon (K K Lai) –On jumping away shifted in and made heavy contact with 3 Harbour Star.
2 Ashkari (A Calder) - Disappointing performance. Rider A Calder reported that from a wide alley his mount covered much ground, approaching the 600 metres was flat and when placed under pressure in the straight failed to respond. In his opinion was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Harbour Star (W L Ho) –Raced three wide without cover.
4 Brave Flying Hawk (L Corrales) –Shifted out when the gates were released and brushed 6 My Masterpiece. Was checked after passing the 500 metres.At the entrance into the straight had to change course to the inside of 9 Easy Money when disappointed for a run between that gelding and 6 My Masterpiece.
8 Korean Dream (L Salles) - Rider L Salles was unable to give any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance of 8 Korean Dream tonight, however, highlighted that the gelding was having its first race start tonight following a two months spell. In his opinion it would benefit from the run. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 King Achilles (C Perkins) –Raced very keenly through the early stages.
11 Macau Spring (B Yamzon) –Was marginally slow to begin.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Jockey K K Lai the rider of 1 Red Dragon was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that after passing the 500 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in resulting in 4 Brave Flying Hawk (L Corrales) losing its rightful running and having to be checked. Jockey K K Lai’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering the meetings of 4th and 10 June 2016, to be served cumulatively with the suspension he incurred from Race 2. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his plea, his recent record, the degree of interference and the level of carelessness. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
