RACE-2 THE TULYAR RATING 55-0 (CLASS 4,5&6) 1050 METRES (314)

2 Surdmaster (W Smith) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality
3 Galaxy Elite (K H Yu) –Approaching the home turn lay out and bumped 4 The Pirate King. At the 250 metres shifted out under pressure and took 4 The Pirate King wider on the track.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Correct Weight was delayed to allow the Stewards to consider an objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales, the rider of 4 The Pirate King (2nd placegetter) against 3 Galaxy Elite (K H Yu) being declared the winner alleging interference from the 500 metres to the 250 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockeys L Corrales and K Y Yu in the presence of Mr. K H Leong trainer of 3 Galaxy Elite and Mr. J M Moore trainer of 4 The Pirate King. It was established that approaching the home turn 3 Galaxy Elite lay out and bumped 4 The Pirate King. Then at the 250 metres 3 Galaxy Elite shifted out under pressure and took 4 The Pirate King wider on the track. After considering all the circumstances, in particular the degree of the interference and the beaten margin of a length, the Stewards could not be satisfied that had the interference not taken place 4 The Pirate King would have beaten 3 Galaxy Elite to the finish line and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placing.

At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey K H Yu the rider of 3 Galaxy Elite was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out under pressure at the 250 metres. He was advised that he would be expected to react much quicker and to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight in future.
