Race Report

RACE-4 THE ALYDAR RATING 80-60 (CLASS 2&3) 1200 METRES (16)

2 Hopefully Tomorrow (Y M Choi) -Was slow to begin and was then tight for room between 5 Casino Mok and 8 Luen On Star which shifted out and away from 4 Mission Gdragon which shifted out slightly. The Stewards questioned Jockey Y M Choi the rider of 2 Hopefully Tomorrow in regards to his riding of the gelding leaving the 600 metres. Jockey Y M Choi stated that after being slow to begin and tightened for room at the start, his mount settled further back than he had anticipated. He added that he rode his mount vigorously in the early stages, however his mount did not travel comfortably and was unable to maintain its position. He added leaving the 600 metres his mount continued to feel awkward and was heavy in its action and in the home straight when he placed 2 Hopefully Tomorrow under pressure it had a tendency to lay out. He further added that in his opinion 2 Hopefully Tomorrow was not suited by today’s firm ground and may be better suited to races over a longer distance. The Stewards noted his explanation, however advised him that in future, he is to ensure that he rides all his mounts with sufficient purpose and vigour at all times and should he continue to ride in such a manner further action may be taken.
3 Brilliant Debbie (W L Ho) -Was slow into stride. Leaving the 800 metres commenced to over race and was steadied away from the heels of 4 Mission Gdragon which was taken in by 5 Casino Mok which shifted in when not quite clear. Then shifted out and bumped 8 Luen On Star. Jockey W Smith the rider of 5 Casino Mok was issued with a severe reprimand and advised that he is to be sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground in future.
7 Gem Steed (H Lam) -Race wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Luen On Star (M Wepner) -Jumped awkwardly.
9 River Triple (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Was slow into stride. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
