Race Report

RACE-2 THE WELLINGTON RATING 45-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (44)

3 Full Of Luck (R Maia) -Near the 200 metres was eased momentarily off the heels of 9 Wonderful Power which shifted out under pressure. Jockey W Smith the rider of 9 Wonderful Power was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
4 Thuner Bear (B Yamzon) - Over the concluding stages had to be steadied when tightened for room between 3 Full Of Luck and 6 River Colour both of which shifted ground slightly. The Stewards took no further action other than advise all riders to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
5 Flying Team (O Chavez) -Near the 700 metres raced up onto the heels of 10 Special Steel (H Lam) and had to be steadied. Near the 400 metres had to be checked and became unbalanced for considerable distance. Jockey O Chavez was question regarding his vigor in the home straight. Jockey Chavez stated that near the 400 metres his mount had gained momentum and was improving into the race strongly however suffered interference and had to be checked. He stated as a result of this interference his mount went from travelling strongly to completely off the bit and on entering the home straight he felt his mount was not travelling comfortably. He added he rode his mount hands and heels and applied the whip on a number of occasions however in his opinion due to the interference suffered near the 400 metres, his mount was one paced in the straight. The Stewards noted his explanation however advised Jockey Chavez to always ride his mounts in a manner which leaves no room for query. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 Special Steel (H Lam) -Jumped awkwardly and was then tightened for room between 5 Flying Team and 6 River Colour which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. Near the 600 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 7 Together Happy. Was held up and unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn until leaving the 100 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 400 metres whereby 5 Flying Team had to be checked. Evidence was taken from Jockey R Maia (rider of 3 Full Of Luck), Jockey O Chavez (rider of 5 Flying Team) and Jockey W L Ho (rider of 8 Meaning Strong). Jockey R Maia pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 400 metres he permitted 3 Full Of Luck to shift out when insufficiently clear of 8 Meaning Strong which was taken out onto 5 Flying Team which had to be checked. Jockey R Maia’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 1 race meeting to cover the meeting of 16 November 2018. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
