Race Report

RACE-5 THE MANAUS RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1350 METRES (236)

1 Ojala (R Maia) -Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and rounding the first turn had a tendency to hang out.
4 Golden Fans (W Smith) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Stadium (W L Ho) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
8 Garlic And Spicy (O Chavez) -Was slow to begin. Near the 500 metres had to be checked.
9 Ashkari (S Nakano) -Was slow to begin. Near the 500 metres had to be checked. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into a racing incident near the 500 metres whereby 9 Ashkari and 8 Garlic And Spicy were checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 4 Golden Fans (W Smith), 9 Ashkari (S Nakano) and 8 Garlic And Spicy (O Chavez). Jockey W Smith the rider of 4 Golden Fans pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that whilst riding his mount along near the 500 metres, he allowed 4 Golden Fans to shift in when insufficiently clear of 8 Garlic And Spicy which was tightened for room and taken in onto 9 Ashkari which had to be checked. As a consequence 9 Ashkari shifted out making contact with 8 Garlic And Spicy which was carried outwards onto the hindquarters of 4 Golden Fans and had to be checked. Jockey W Smith’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 race meetings covering the meetings of 21 and 28 June 2019. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Jockey Smith’s guilty plea, the degree of the interference and his riding record. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
