Race Report

RACE-2 THE KWANGTUNG RATING 45-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (2)

1 Ready Fire (S Nakano) -Near the 1100 metres was steadied when momentarily racing in restricted room to the inside of 12 Best Jade Wan Zai which shifted in and away from 2 Northern Legend.
2 Northern Legend (W L Ho) -Leaving the 200 metres had a tendency to lay out under pressure. Leaving the 100 metres shifted in under pressure and brushed 3 Jvala.
3 Jvala (L Corrales) -Leaving the 1000 metres momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of 10 Cookson which shifted in and away slightly from 5 Infinite Treasure. Leaving the 100 metres was brushed by 2 Northern Legend which shifted in under pressure.
4 Express Pony (O Chavez) -Near the 100 metres was bumped by 11 Taolu Expert which shifted out marginally. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Infinite Treasure (C F Chan) -Raced wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Game Of Dreams (K K Lai) -Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide rounding the first turn.
9 Special Steel (B Yamzon) -Near the 500 metres was inclined to lay in when hampered by 10 Cookson which was yielding ground quickly.
10 Cookson (Y M Choi) -Was slow into stride. Yielded ground quickly leaving the 500 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 Taolu Expert (D Barros) -Was slow to begin. Was tightened for room shortly after the start between 9 Special Steel and 1 Ready Fire which was taken out by 6 River Colour, which when being ridden along, shifted out. Jockey T Appie the rider of 6 River Colour was issued with a severe reprimand and was advised that in future he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. Near 450 metres momentarily raced in restricted room and brushed the running rail when awkwardly placed to the inside of 9 Special Steel which was inclined to lay in and away from 10 Cookson which was yielding ground quickly. Jockey D Barros was issued a reprimand for accidentally dropping his whip near the 300 metres. Near the 100 metres shifted out slightly and bumped 4 Express Pony.
12 Best Jade Wan Zai (V Tolentino) -Raced wide without cover leaving the 600 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the Stewards heard an objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales the rider of 3 Jvala, 2nd placegetter against 2 Northern Legend (W L Ho) being declared the winner alleging interference over the final 100 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockeys L Corrales and W L Ho as well as Mr. K S Wong the trainer of 3 Jvala and Mr. J Lau trainer of 2 Northern Legend. After reviewing the patrol films and considering all of the evidence tendered it was established that leaving the 100 metres 2 Northern Legend shifted in under pressure after being corrected by its rider and brushed with 3 Jvala. After taking into account all of the circumstances, in particular the official beaten margin of a neck, the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred that 3 Jvala would have beaten 2 Northern Legend to the finish and therefore dismissed the objection and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.
At a subsequent inquiry, the Stewards severely reprimanded Jockey W L Ho for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in and was advised that in similar circumstances in future he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
