Race Report

RACE-3 BONUS CUP RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1200 METRES (167)

2 Famous Medal (C L Cheung) -Near the 150 metres shifted out and brushed 9 Desi Prince.
3 Pink Marquise (M Tanaka) -Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 700 metres shifted out slightly and lost ground when awkwardly placed on the heels of 11 Easy Ace.
4 Cumberbatch (L Corrales) -Was marginally slow to begin and then shortly after was crowded for room between 10 Star Of Venus and 3 Pink Marquise which jumped awkwardly outwards. Steadied near the 1150 metres. Was held up rounding the home turn.
5 Out To Win (W H Lao) -Near the 700 metres raced up onto the heels of 12 Gorgeous Bomb and was shifted outwards. Was inclined to shift out under pressure in the home straight.
6 Pearl Green (Apprentice Tesuri) -Was slow into stride. Over the concluding stages shifted out under pressure and was eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 9 Desi Prince which at the same time shifted in when laying in.
7 Sheng Tong Star (K F Choi) -Bumped by 12 Gorgeous Bomb which shifted out abruptly on jumping away.
9 Desi Prince (S Nakano) -Was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Near the 150 metres was brushed by 2 Famous Medal which shifted out.
10 Star Of Venus (K H Yu) -Checked near the 1150 metres. Near the 700 metres had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 4 Cumberbatch which shifted out slightly when awkwardly placed on the heels of 3 Pink Marquise which lost ground. Rider reported that after receiving interference shortly after the start, his mount settled further back than he had anticipated and in his opinion this contributed to the gelding’s performance today.
11 Easy Ace (T Appie) -Near the 300 metres was disappointed for a run to the inside of 2 Famous Medal and a short distance later had to be shifted to the outside of that runners heels to obtain clear running.
12 Gorgeous Bomb (Y M Choi) -On jumping away shifted out abruptly and bumped 7 Sheng Tong Star. Trainer K S Wong was informed that a warning had been placed on 12 Gorgeous Bomb in relation to its racing manners. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and near the 900 metres was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 8 Gem Glory which shifted inwards when not quite clear. Jockey H Lam the rider of 8 Gem Glory was issued a severe reprimand and was advised that he is to ensure he is sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground at all times. For some distance thereafter continued to race keenly and proved difficult to settle. Leaving the 700 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 7 Sheng Tong Star. Raced wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1150 metres where 10 Star Of Venus was checked and 4 Cumberbatch was steadied. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 Famous Medal (C L Cheung), 3 Pink Marquise (M Tanaka), 4 Cumberbatch (L Corrales) and 10 Star Of Venus (K H Yu). Jockey C L Cheung the rider of 2 Famous Medal pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 1150 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of 10 Star Of Venus which had to be checked and was then taken in onto 4 Cumberbatch which had to be steadied. Jockey C L Cheung’s license to ride in races was suspended for 1 racemeeting covering the meeting of Saturday, 2 April 2022. In arriving at the penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
