Race Report

RACE-4 THE SALT LAKE CITY RATING 70-45 (CLASS 3) 1200 METRES (179)

1 Subtle Mind (L Corrales) -Shifted in on jumping away and was then buffeted between 2 Hostwin Shadow and 5 Breezy Artax, both of which also shifted ground. A short distance later then had to be steadied when further tightened for room between 2 Hostwin Shadow which shifted out slightly and 5 Breezy Artax which was steadied when being taken in by 8 Draft Camp which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. As the Stewards deemed this a racing incident, no action was taken. Was held up in the home straight and was unable to establish clear running until leaving the 100 metres.
2 Hostwin Shadow (A A Rivera) -Near the 500 metres had to be steadied when racing up onto the heels of 7 Circuit Master which lost ground after being steadied away from the heels of 9 More Than Chef. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Fortune Paradise (Apprentice Tesuri) -Brushed with 9 More Than Chef on jumping away. Checked near the 100 metres.
5 Breezy Artax (K H Yu) -Shortly after the start was steadied when tightened by 1 Subtle Mind which was taken out by 2 Hostwin Shadow and 8 Draft Camp which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.
6 Sheng Tong Glory (M Tanaka) -A post race veterinary examination revealed that 6 Sheng Tong Glory had suffered a bleeding attack. Trainer W H Tse was informed that the standard stand down period (7 days training/21 days racing) applies and 6 Sheng Tong Glory will not be permitted to race again, until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial and a veterinary certificate is produced.
7 Circuit Master (B Yamzon) -Near the 500 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 9 More Than Chef which lost ground after racing up onto the heels of 12 Still Be Friends and was steadied.
8 Draft Camp (Apprentice X C Liang) -Raced wide without cover from the 500 metres. Near the 50 metres was taken outwards by 1 Subtle Mind which shifted out under pressure after securing clear running.
9 More Than Chef (W H Lao) -Jumped away awkwardly and brushed 4 Fortune Paradise. Near the 500 metres raced up onto the heels of 12 Still Be Friends and had to be steadied, Checked near the 50 metres.
12 Still Be Friends (K F Choi) -Raced fiercely in the middle stages.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into racing indents near the 100 metres where 4 Fortune Paradise was checked and near the 50 metres where 9 More Than Chef was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 4 Fortune Paradise (Apprentice Tesuri), 9 More Than Chef (W H Lao) and 11 Luen On Prosperity (T Appie). It was established that near the 100 metres 11 Luen On Prosperity shifted out under pressure and at the same time 9 More Than Chef then shifted in into a tight run between 4 Fortune Paradise and 11 Luen On Prosperity. Then a short distance later 11 Luen On Prosperity then shifted back in slightly resulting in 9 More Than Chef being taken in onto 4 Fortune Paradise which had to be checked. After considering all of the mitigating factors, the Stewards issued Jockey T Appie the rider of 11 Luen On Prosperity a severe similar reprimand and he was advised that in similar circumstances, he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mounts.

It was then established that near the 50 metres 9 More Than Chef had to be checked when tightened for room by 11 Luen On Prosperity which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey T Appie the rider of 11 Luen On Prosperity pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 50 metres he permitted his mount to shift in whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of 9 More Than Chef which had to be checked. Jockey T Appie’s license to ride in races was suspended for 2 racemeetings covering the meetings of Friday, 22 April and Saturday, 23 April 2022. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his riding record, his guilty plea, the degree of the interference and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
