RACE-3 THE YUNNAN RATING 70+ (CLASS 1&2) 1200 METRES (129)

1 The Alfonso (L Corrales) -Shortly after the start was eased when momentarily tightened for room between 9 Winter Snow and 6 Bow Noculars which shifted out slightly.
4 River Bobo (O Chavez) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Wichita Linesman (H Lam) -Jumped awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance of 5 Wichita Linesman, Jockey H Lam stated from the wide draw he was instructed try to obtain a position closer to the running rail and to have the gelding travel where it was comfortable. He added shortly after the start he attempted to shift to the running rail however 1 The Alfonso was racing to his inside so he had to come back an extra length than he had hoped to be able to get down to the running rail. He added that due to this he settled further back than he had anticipated. He stated that from this point on he had to ride his mount along to try to maintain its position, however his mount was one paced due to the quick tempo. He further stated that 5 Wichita Linesman did find the line strongly over the final 300 metres and would be much better suited in races over a longer distance. The Stewards noted his explanation.
7 Golden Thumb (W L Ho) - Near the 600 metres was bumped by 12 Mission Gdragon and forced wider on the track when that horse shifted out when it was awkwardly placed on the heels of 2 Mister Kaopu. Near the 500 metres bumped with 12 Mission Gdragon. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Bring Me Speed (K Leung) -Over raced in the early stages. Near the 900 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 3 Obrigado Mais. Upon entering the home straight was disappointed for a run between 3 Obrigado Mais and 4 River Bobo and was then unable to establish clear running until the 200 metres. The Stewards questioned Jockey K Leung the rider of 8 Bring Me Speed regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular if there was an opportunity near the 500 metres to improve wider on the track behind 11 Felizmaster which would have afforded him the opportunity to get to the outside when entering the home straight. Jockey K Leung stated that leaving the 500 metres his mount was traveling quite strongly and he had briefly considered improving wider on the track on the back of 11 Felizmaster however was concerned that he would have been forced extremely wide rounding the home turn and cover unnecessary ground. He added that he was following 3 Obrigado Mais at that point and was unsure if that horse was going to shift in or out, so he elected to maintain his ground and ride for luck in the home straight. He added on entering the home straight he was disappointed for a run and was unable to establish clear running until near the 200 metres where his mount then ran on strongly. He further added that in his opinion 8 Bring Me Speed would be better suited for races over longer distances. The Stewards noted his explanation.
9 Winter Snow (W Smith) -Raced wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 Felizmaster (M Wepner) -Raced wide rounding the home turn.
12 Mission Gdragon (F Henrique) -Near the 600 metres was awkwardly placed on the heels of 2 Mister Kaopu, shifted out and bumped 7 Golden Thumb. Near the 500 metres bumped with 7 Golden Thumb. Was unable to establish clear running until approaching the 200 metres.
