2021-03-08 by Harry Troy

The Stanley Chin yard continued on their winning way leading in four winners over the weekends racing, to take him to 28 winners for the season, four clear of last years Champion trainer Tony Fung.

After an unusually quite month in February where Chin’s sole winner was Money Link, Chin’s stable came out running for the month of March, with the USA bred English import Fortune Paradise scoring a runaway win in the Class 3 & 4 over 1350 metres, on the all-weather track Friday night under Eric Cheung.

On a rain-soaked night, Fortune Paradise overcame a slow beginning to find himself threading a passage between horses in the run in a nice bit of riding by Cheung, ending up on the leaders back on the corner. Once in the straight the son of Animal Kingdom (USA) powered away for a big win over Bring Me Power (Peter Ho), with Falcoshow (Stephane Ladjadj) in third.

City Gold another UK import was the second of Chin’s winners for the night, when he bolted away with the Class 3 over 1510 metres for Japanese rider Masa Tanaka.

The four-year Irish bred son of Outstrip (GB), is developing into a real sand star having won five of his last seven runs on the surface, with four of them at the 1510 metres trip. The front running gelding has a high cruising speed and a great turn of foot when called on. His run time of 1.32.6 and the ease of his win, suggests he will have no trouble mixing it with Class 1 and 2 company on the all-weather.

On Saturday Chin’s newcomer City Gold Income had to pull out all stops to prevail in the Class 3 over 1200 metres, with Eric Cheung in the saddle.

City Gold Income was expected to excel on the soft turf conditions after an eight lengths victory at Seymour in Victoria, before being bought for Macau by Stanley Chin for his owners Mr. Chan Kwok Yin & Kwan Yiu Pang. However, the son of Squamosa (Aus) after traveling well in the run struggled firstly to get by of Casino Mok (Roger Yu), after dipping several times in the going, and then just had enough in hand to stave off the fast-finishing Draft Camp (Masa Tanaka) to score by a half a length.

The inform Money Link capped of Chin’s weekend when he came with a powerful run to finish right over the top of his rivals in the Class 3 & 4 over 1500 metres, under Japanese rider Masa Tanaka.

An Irish bred UK import, Money Link has really found form this season with two wins and a nose second from his last three runs.

“It’s been a good weekend; I’m extremely pleased with how my horses are going, especially the younger one’s” Chin said.

“Eric (Cheung) is doing a great job since I bought him to Macau. I will give my best possible support to assist him to win the Jockeys’ Championship.”

A former champion apprentice in Hong Kong, Chin’s successful riding career took him all around the world before retiring in 2014 to take out a trainer’s license in Macau. He quickly established himself in the top bracket of conditioners, with his crowning glory coming in the 2018 – 2019 racing season, when he took the trainer’s title with 52 winners.

Chin declared at the start of the season that he was pulling out all stops to make this season his own, and is certainly in a great position after the weekend with a seven-win lead over Tony Fung who is on 21 wins, with Sio Cheong in third spot on 19 victories.

Geoff Allendorf was another that enjoyed a good weekend, winning the first two races on the card on Saturday, with Global Justice and Imperial Eagle.

Global Justice appreciated the drop in grade and the soft conditions to race away with the first of the day, the Class 6 over 1500 metres for Brazilian jockey Fausto Henrique.

Imperial Eagle was the second of Allendorf’s winner when he stormed home late again under Henrique, to snatch victory from debut runner Danish Star (Luis Corrales), with another newcomer Dawson (Peter Ho) in third.

Eric Cheung was the star rider of the weekend booting home four winners, to take him within one win of Luis Corrales in the rider’s standings, with the score now Corrales 28 to Cheung’s 27, Peter Ho lies in third spot on 21 winners.

As well as winning on Fortune Paradise on Friday night for Stanley Chin, Cheung was also successful on the Hong Kong reject City Luck Star, who easily won the last on Friday night the Class 4 & 5 over 1350 metres for trainer Tony Fung.

City Luck Star is a lovely bred son of Redoute’s Choice from the Singspiel mare in Fashion Note. The gelding was failure in Hong Kong and retired after 11 starts. Almost one year on the five-year-old finds himself in Macau, and a winner first up in the good run time of 1.21.8, just a tick outside the class record.

Cheung then booted home a double on the turf on Saturday with Chi Chai Sin Sang for Wayne Smith in the Class 3 (Division 1) over 1200 metres, and then picked up the second division with City Gold Income for Stanley Chin.
