Race Report

RACE-5 THE MACAU STAR OF THE SAND STAKES - SAND CHAMPION SERIES LEG 3 (GROUP 1) OPEN 1500 METRES (372)

3 Healthy Life (K K Lai) –Approaching the 1300 metres had to be steadied when tightened between 5 Sandtop and 4 Pak Lok Angel which shifted in when not quite clear. Jockey W Smith the rider of Pak Lok Angel was notified that he must be fully clear of other runners when shifting ground at all times.
5 Sandtop (R Curatolo) –Was kicked by another runner in the mounting yard and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run. Approaching the 1300 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of 10 Happy Prodigal Son.
6 Sheng Li Win (K H Yu) –Had some difficulty obtaining a clear run from the entrance of the straight until after passing the 200 metres.
7 Central Station (A Aucharuz) – Was slow to begin and restrained across the back of the field to obtain a position closer to the rail. At the entrance to the straight had to be steadied with disappointed for a run between 2 Best Of Luck and 6 Sheng Li Win.
8 Perfect Alloy (B Yamzon) –Disappointing performance. Rider reported his mount travelled well, however failed to respond to his riding in the straight. He added in his opinion the gelding is better suited to the turf track. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Gold Alloy (H Lam) –Knuckled when the gates were released.
12 Kelowna Star (M Cangas) –Was caught wide throughout the event. Near 100 metres was inconvenienced by 2 Best Of Luck which shifted in. Jockey M Cangas and Trainer J W Moore were spoken to regarding the tactics adopted on 12 Kelowna Star. Jockey M Cangas explained that he was of the belief that his instructions were to go forward and attempt to lead. Trainer J M Moore explained that he had instructed the rider to have the gelding as close as possible, similar instructions to that of previous starts. He added that bearing in mind that the gelding has a tendency to miss the start, he would expect it to settle in a midfield position.
