Race Report

RACE-4 THE ANHWEI RATING 70+ (CLASS 1&2) 1500 METRES (34)

1 The Alfonso (W L Ho) –Jockey W L Ho explained that he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance today as 1 The Alfonso never traveled comfortably and was under pressure from the 600 metres. He added that in the straight 1 The Alfonso did not respond to his urgings as a result he elected to ease the gelding down over the final 200 metres. A swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination, including an endoscopic examination after the race failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer J Lau was informed that he would be required to present the horse to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 23rd October 2016.
3 Pak Lok Angel (W Smith) –Near the 1400 metres attempted to buck for a stride. As this was the second time in recent starts, Trainer C F Chan was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed in an official Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Near the 1300 metres when over racing was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 10 Happy Prodigal Son. Jockey W Smith explained that leaving the 600 metres he considered improving wider on the track, however runners in front of him were looking to shift out to improve at that point, so he elected to shift in and improve his position along the rails in an attempt to save ground. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation.
4 Sandtop (L Corrales) –Race wide rounding the home turn.
6 Golden Double (C Perkins) –Rounding the home turn until near the 250 metres was disappointed for a run between 9 Lucky And Wealthy and 5 Perfect Alloy which shifted out slightly under pressure. Thereafter was obliged to shift inwards and was able to obtain clear running near the 200 metres. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
8 Advance Mission (W H Lao) –Near the 900 metres was momentarily steadied when 11 Turquoise Power shifted in.
11 Turquoise Power (A Calder) –Raced wide without cover until the 900 metres. Near the 600 metres was brushed by 8 Advance Mission which shifted out to improve.
