Race Report

RACE-5 THE GOOD HEALTH RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1200 METRES (139)
This race was rescheduled to start at 4:25pm.

1 Great China (C F Chan) -Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer K H Leong was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Winner Fortune (A Aucharuz) –Near the 800 metres raced in restricted room for a short distance and was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 11 Golden Kalbar.
12 Turquoise Lucky (H Lam) –The Stewards questioned Jockey H Lam the rider of 12 Turquoise Lucky with regards to his ride, of particular concerns to the Stewards were the reasons he remained in a position on the running rail from the 800 metres until entering the home straight and his vigour from the 400 metres until the 200 metres. Jockey Lam stated that he was instructed to have 12 Turquoise Lucky positioned on the running rail so as to save ground and in the home straight to place his mount under full pressure from the 200 metres as the gelding only has a short sprint. He explained that after beginning well he was able to obtain a position on the running rail near the 900 metres and to comply with his instructions he remained in that position until entering the home straight. He added that to further comply with his instructions, at the top of the home straight he rode his mount hands and heels until near the 200 metres where he then applied the whip and from then on 12 Turquoise Lucky finished the race off fairly. Trainer K S Ho confirmed the instructions and advised the Stewards that he was satisfied with the ride. After considering all of the circumstances and after reviewing previous races of 12 Turquoise Lucky, the Stewards accepted both their explanations, however reminded Jockey Lam that he would be expected to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.
14 Kirin Wit (M Cangas) –Near the 450 metres made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced when it shied in and away from 9 Modena Favorite which when hanging out and being corrected by its rider shifted in marginally. After considering all the circumstances the Stewards could not attribute blame to anyone rider and no further action was taken.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The “Enquiry” sign was semaphored following the running of the race to afford the Stewards the opportunity to view the official patrol film of the start to establish whether 1 Great China had been afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected 1 Great China stood flat footed and lost significant ground. The Stewards were satisfied that 1 Great China had been afforded a fair start and as such Correct Weight was declared.
