Race Report

RACE-1 THE THATCH RATING SPECIAL (SPECIAL) 1500 METRES (13)

1 Schilleraine (L Corrales) -Near the 1350 metres had to be checked and commenced to over race. Thereafter continued to over race and was checked near the 1200 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 River Colour (K H Yu) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Stallion Treasure (W L Ho) -Was slow to begin.
6 Flying Team (O Chavez) -Near the 1200 metres was steadied.
7 Happy Encore (Y M Choi) -Was slow into stride.
9 My Golden Boy (Apprentice C L Cheung) - Near the 1200 metres was steadied. On entering the home straight was unable to establish clear running until leaving the 200 metres.
10 Go Go Fish (K Leung) - Near the 1200 metres had to be steadied. Raced wide without cover leaving the 600 metres.
12 My Fortune Star (S Nakano) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
13 So Happy (M Wepner) -Near the 50 metres was steadied.
14 Chapman Bunbun (H Lam) -Near the 1350 metres over raced on the heels of 11 Wonderful Power, was then steadied and shifted out. Continued to over race and near the 1200 metres raced awkwardly on the heels of 13 So Happy and was steadied. Continued to over race and raced wide until near the 700 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1350 metres when 1 Schilleraine had to be checked. Evidence was taken from Jockeys H Lam the rider of 14 Chapman Bunbun, L Corrales the rider of 1 Schilleraine and S Nakano the rider of 12 My Fortune Star. It was established that near the 1350 metres, when the pace of the race slowed, 14 Chapman Bunbun over raced up onto the heels of 11 Wonderful Power and shifted out despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in 1 Schilleraine being tightened for room between 14 Chapman Bunbun and 12 My Fortune Star and had to be checked. A short distance later 14 Chapman Bunbun continued to over race, and was bumped by 4 Stallion Treasure which was taken out by 8 Taolu Expert which shifted out slightly. 14 Chapman Bunbun was then placed in an awkward position on the heels of 13 So Happy and had to be steadied. This resulted in 6 Flying Team and 10 Go Go Fish which were following having to be steadied and 1 Schilleraine which continued to over race having to be checked. 9 My Golden Boy which was following 1 Schilleraine also had to be steadied. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards could not attribute the blame to anyone rider and took no further action, other than to advise all riders to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.

The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 50 metres where 13 So Happy (M Wepner) was steadied. Evidence was taken from Jockeys H Lam the rider of 14 Chapman Bunbun , C F Chan the rider of 8 Taolu Expert and M Wepner the rider of 13 So Happy. It was established that approaching the 50 metres 14 Chapman Bunbun which was tiring shifted in and away from 6 Flying Team under riding, resulting in 8 Taolu Expert which was finishing strongly being taken in slightly and was then inclined to shift in and away from 14 Chapman Bunbun. This resulted in 13 So Happy which was yielding ground being tightened for room between 8 Taolu Expert and 7 Happy Encore which improved into a tight run to the inside 13 So Happy. As a result 13 So Happy had to be steadied. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards took no further action other than to issue Jockey H Lam a severe reprimand and acknowledged that whilst he had taken corrective measures in this incident, he would be required to correct his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion.
