Race Report

RACE-6 THE COLUMBUS RATING 55-25 (CLASS 4) 1800 METRES (211)

1 State Source Star (W Smith) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Jvala (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Raced fiercely in the early stages and passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 5 Winning Express which when racing fiercely shifted out slightly
4 Yang Jiang Star (F Henrique) -Checked near the 500 metres
6 Iced Jade (K Leung) -Race fiercely in the early and middle stages and raced wide without cover leaving the 1400 metres until near the 1200 metres where it improved to the lead.
7 Victory Achiever (W L Ho) -Raced wide without cover throughout. Rounding the home turn was bumped by 3 Jvala which was taken out slightly by 5 Winning Express which shifted out to improve.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into a racing incident near the 500 metres where 4 Yang Jiang Star was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of the following horses 4 Yang Jiang Star (F Henrique), 5 Winning Express (M Wepner), 7 Victory Achiever (W L Ho) and 3 Jvala (Apprentice C L Cheung). Jockey M Wepner the rider of 5 Winning Express pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 500 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear carrying 3 Jvala out onto 4 Yang Jiang Star which had to be checked. Jockey M Wepner’s license to ride in races was suspended from riding in races for one racemeeting being the meeting of Saturday, 27 April 2019. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his record, the degree of interference and the racing manners of 3 Jvala at the point of the incident. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
