Race Report
RACE-1 THE PORTO ALEGRE RATING 50-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1350 METRES (232)

1 Grand Warrior (O Chavez) -Prior to the race Mr. J Lau the trainer of 1 Grand Warrior advised the Stewards that he would be instructing Jockey O Chavez to attempt to have the gelding settle in a midfield position in order to allow the gelding to finish its race off strongly. Raced fiercely in the middle stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Eclair Supreme (W L Ho) - Jockey W L Ho reported that in his opinion the fast tempo in the early and middle stages contributed to the gelding tiring in the home straight. The Stewards noted his explanation. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Epinart (L Corrales) -Was tightened for room shortly after the start between 9 Glory Top which was hanging in despite the efforts of its rider and 6 Go Go Mission which was taken out slightly by 2 Tremendous Wins. After considering all the circumstances the Stewards took no further action.
6 Go Go Mission (Y M Choi) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
7 Hugo And Barry (N Callow) -Was slow to begin.
8 Oriental Reign (H Lam) -Leaving the 700 metres had to be eased momentarily away from the heels of 2 Tremendous Wins which shifted out to improve. Jockey R Maia the rider of 2 Tremendous Wins advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
10 Trillion Princess (K Leung) -Was checked approaching the 800 metres.
11 Honey Biscuit (F Henrique) -Was slow to begin.
12 River Double (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Jumped away awkwardly. Approaching the 700 metres was eased when momentarily racing in restricted room between 10 Trillion Princess and 7 Hugo And Barry both of which shifted ground slightly.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident nearing the 800 metres where 10 Trillion Princess was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 Tremendous Wins (R Maia), 9 Glory Top (S Ladjadj) and 10 Trillion Princess (K Leung). It was established that 9 Glory Top which was being ridden along shifted in carrying 2 Tremendous Wins inwards onto 10 Trillion Princess which had to be checked. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards issued Jockey S Ladjadj with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of other runners and advised him that should he continue to ride in such a manner, further action may be taken. In arriving at this decision the Stewards took into account all mitigating factors.

When questioned regarding his riding near the 500 metres, Jockey H Lam the rider of 8 Oriental Reign explained that approaching the 500 metres 8 Oriental Reign raced tight to the inside of 1 Grand Warrior (O Chavez) for a short distance and as a result he had to momentarily steady his mount. He added a short distance later his mount was then reluctant to stride out in the kickback when 2 Tremendous Wins (R Maia) improved in front of him. He further added that as a result his mount was unbalanced in its action and he then steadied his mount to regain its balance. Jockey H Lam added that in the home straight when placed under pressure 8 Oriental Reign did not run on and proved disappointing. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards noted Jockey H Lam’s explanation however reminded him of his responsibility to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.
