Race Report
RACE-3 THE BARNSLEY RATING 95-70 (CLASS 1&2) 1050 METRES (82)

China Paradise (R Maia) -Rider reported in his opinion having to carry 133lbs tonight and in addition being forced to race on the inside section of the track, which in his opinion was inferior, contributed to the gelding’s poor performance tonight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer Y C Fung was informed that he would be required to present the gelding to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Saturday, 23 November 2019.
The Pirate King (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had suffered a bleeding attack. Trainer K M Chin was informed that the standard stand down period applies and 2 The Pirate King will be required to pass an official Barrier Trial and a veterinary clearance must be produced before racing again.
Fortune Treasure (B Yamzon) -Had a tendency to lay in in the home straight.
Eclair Sunshine (L Corrales) -Was slow to begin. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
Winter Snow (C F Chan) - Jumped away awkwardly. Was examined behind the barrier at the Jockey’s request and passed fit to start. Had a tendency to lay out leaving the 700 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
Mission Gdragon (H Lam) - Near the 700 metres raced in restricted room for some distance and was steadied between 1 China Paradise which shifted out slightly and 9 Desi Style which was laying in and away from 2 The Pirate King despite the efforts of its rider. After considering all the circumstances, in particular Jockey Y M Choi’s attempt to correct his mount despite his saddle having shifted, the Stewards took no further action.
Desi Style (Y M Choi) -Rider reported his saddle shifted forward shortly after the start which placed him at a distinct disadvantage throughout the race.
The Moon's Back (T Appie) -Was slow to begin. The Stewards questioned Jockey T Appie with regards to his ride, in particular from the 800 metres. Jockey T Appie stated that over tonight’s distance he expected to settle to the tail of the field and added after jumping away he rode his mount vigorously in the early stages however 10 The Moon's Back failed to muster speed and settled further back than he had anticipated. He added from the 800 metres he rode the gelding along however 10 The Moon's Back did not respond and was not travelling comfortably so he allowed his mount to stride freely and travel where it was comfortable. He further added from the 600 metres he began to urge his mount forward to make up ground and in the home straight ran on well under pressure and he was pleased with its performance. He concluded that 10 The Moon's Back may be better suited to races over a longer distance. After considering all of the circumstances, the stewards noted his explanation.
