Race Report

RACE-3 UNIVERSITY OF MACAU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CUP RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1510 METRES (94)

4 Pearl Win Win (B Yamzon) -Blundered on jumping away. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Ares Spear (L Corrales) -Leaving the 1000 metres raced fiercely for some distance and proved difficult to settle. Near the 300 metres was crowded for room and had to be steadied.
7 Oh So Easy (J B Hamel) -Raced wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Unforgettable (C F Chan) -Acting on veterinary advice, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 3:14pm when it became cast in the barrier stall. Trainer M C Tam was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial and a veterinary clearance is produced.
10 Golden Toruk (T Appie) -Was slow to begin.
11 Fortune Power (S Ladjadj) -Leaving the 200 metres had a tendency to lay in under pressure.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales the rider of 6 Ares Spear (2nd place getter) against 12 Magnapegasus (H Lam) being declared the winner for alleging interference near the 300 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockeys L Corrales and H Lam in the presence of Mr. P Leyshan the trainer of 6 Ares Spear and Mr. W Smith the trainer of 12 Magnapegasus. It was established that near the 300 metres 6 Ares Spear was crowded for room and had to be steadied between 12 Magnapegasus which shifted out marginally and 3 Garlic And Spicy which shifted in. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards were satisfied that the interference suffered by 6 Ares Spear was not solely caused by 12 Magnapegasus as there was a contributing shift by 3 Garlic And Spicy and as such dismissed the objection and declared “Correct Weight” on the Judge’s placing.

At a subsequent inquiry evidence was also taken from the rider of 3 Garlic And Spicy (K H Yu). After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards issued Jockey K H Yu the rider of 3 Garlic And Spicy with a severe reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when not fully clear. He was further advised that should he continued to ride in such manner, more severe action may be taken in future.
