Race Report

RACE-4 THE QIQIHAR RATING 70-40 (CLASS 2&3) 1800 METRES (119)

1 Fortune Generation (S Nakano) - Approaching the 1400 metres had to be checked. Was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight and was unable to establish a clear running until near the 200 metres.
2 Knows It All (J B Hamel) - Raced wide without cover until approaching the 1400 metres. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was lame in the right foreleg. Trainer C F Chan was advised that 2 Knows It All will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary certificate is produced.
3 Golden Victory (H Lam) - Raced fiercely in the early stages.
4 Grand Double Win (L Corrales) - Leaving 500 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 6 Modena Best which was attempting to shift out to improve. On entering the home straight had difficultly securing clear running until near the 100 metres. Rider reported that he considered improving wider on the track leaving the 600 metres however was concerned that the rider of 6 Modena Best was attempting to shift out to improve at that stage and would result in him being carried wider on the track and covering unnecessary ground rounding the home turn. He added as a result he elected to steady his mount and save ground to the inside which he was able to do however in the home straight had difficulty in obtaining a clear run. He added he was able to secure clear running near the 100 metres where 4 Grand Double Win finished the race off strongly. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation.
5 Pearl Win Win (B Yamzon) - Bumped by 7 Bring Me Glory on jumping away.
6 Modena Best (Y M Choi) - Raced wide rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Bring Me Glory (O Chavez) - Bumped with 5 Pearl Win Win on jumping away. Raced wide without cover rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 The Macallan (C F Chan) - Approaching the winning post on the first occasion raced fiercely and had to be steadied away from the heels of 12 Still So Cute which shifted in when not quite clear. Jockey K H Yu the rider of 12 Still So Cute was severely reprimanded. In assessing not to issue a more severe penalty, the Stewards acknowledged that the racing manners of 10 The Macallan had contributed to this incident. Leaving the 1400 metres raced wide and ungenerously and was allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead position near the 800 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into a racing incident approaching 1400 metres where 1 Fortune Generation had to be checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Fortune Generation (S Nakano), 2 Knows It All (J B Hamel), 3 Golden Victory (H Lam) and 5 Pearl Win Win (B Yamzon). Jockey B Yamzon pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that approaching the 1400 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 3 Golden Victory which was taken in onto 1 Fortune Generation which had to be checked. Jockey B Yamzon’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 1 racemeeting, covering the meeting of Friday, 21st February 2020. In assessing penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, the degree of interference, his riding record and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
