Race Report

RACE-2 THE SHEK O RATING 45-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1200 METRES (TURF) (148)

1 Kelvin's Choice (L Corrales) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
2 Sweet Bumhan (F Henrique) -Was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight and was unable to establish clear running until near the 250 metres.
3 St Trump (B Yamzon) -Near the 700 metres broke down in the left fore fetlock. 10 Lucky General, 14 River Rich, 13 Special Steel and 11 Gem General which were following were all hampered in consequence. Subsequent to the race was humanely euthanized.
4 Diamond Moonlight (D Barros) -Jumped away awkwardly and had a tendency to hang out shortly after the start. Rider reported his mount raced greenly throughout and at times proved difficult to settle. He added that in his opinion, the gelding would benefit from today’s racing experience. On entering the home straight was disappointed for a run between 12 House Of Happiness and 9 Chinese Hero and was obliged to shift out around the heels of 9 Chinese Hero to obtain clear running.
5 Hostwin Euphoria (J B Hamel) -Was examined behind the barriers at the Stewards request and passed fit to race.
7 The Prime Side (M Tanaka) -Bumped by 5 Hostwin Euphoria on jumping away. Approaching the 800 metres bumped with 12 House Of Happiness on a number of occasions which when over racing shifted in slightly. Was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight and was unable to establish clear running until near the 250 metres.
8 Cheerful Fish (W H Lao) -Near the 950 metres checked. Was held up in the early stages of the home straight and was unable to establish clear running until near the 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Chinese Hero (K H Yu) -Jumped away awkwardly and then shifted out and bumped with 6 Luen On Prosperity.
10 Lucky General (T Appie) -Near the 700 metres was hampered.
11 Gem General (H Lam) -Had a tendency to lay in rounding the home turn. Near the 700 metres was hampered.
12 House Of Happiness (Y M Choi) -Raced fiercely in the middle stages. Hung out rounding turn.
13 Special Steel (C F Chan) -Near the 700 metres was hampered.
14 River Rich (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Near the 700 metres was hampered. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 950 metres whereby 8 Cheerful Fish had to be checked. Evidence was taken from riders of 2 Sweet Bumhan (F Henrique), 6 Luen On Prosperity (S Nakano) and 8 Cheerful Fish (W H Lao). Jockey S Nakano the rider of 6 Luen On Prosperity pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 950 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent 6 Luen On Prosperity from shifting in when insufficiently clear of 2 Sweet Bumhan which was steadied and in turn taken in onto 8 Cheerful Fish which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey S Nakano’s license to ride in races was suspended for two racemeetings covering the meetings of 15th and 16th May 2020 and he was issued a momentary fine of HKD9000 in lieu of an additional race meeting. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Nakano’s guilty plea, his poor riding record, the degree of the interference and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
