RACE-2 THE CALCUTTA RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1050 METRES (164)
1 Lucky Pearl (K H Yu) -Near the 900 metres was bumped by 12 Sport General and in turn was taken out onto the hindquarters of 5 Silent Height and was buffeted for some distance when crowded for room and had to be checked. Leaving the 800 metres clipped heels and had to be checked. Rider reported that after receiving interference leaving the 800 metres he had serious concerns with his mount’s action and as such he was reluctant to place his mount under pressure thereafter. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K S Wong was informed that he would be required to present the gelding to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Saturday, 7 March 2020.
2 Ronson (D Barros) -Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out shortly after the start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Win Win Hooray (F Henrique) -Over the concluding stages when inclined to shift in under pressure was bumped by 9 Kelvin’s Choice which when finishing strongly was taken out slightly by 7 Danny Choice which shifted out marginally. As a result of the bump, Jockey F Henrique elected to take hold of his mount and it was not ridden out fully to the finish line. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards took no further action against Jockey F Henrique for failing to ride his mount out fully to the finish line. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Darling Ten (J B Hamel) -Leaving the 600 metres had a tendency to hang out and proved difficult to control.
5 Silent Height (Y M Choi) -Blundered on jumping away and then shifted out hampering 3 Win Win Hooray. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
12 Sport General (S Nakano) -Had a tendency to lay in in the home straight. Over the concluding stages had to be eased when racing in restricted room between 4 Darling Ten which shifted in slightly and 10 Master Of Mars which shifted out slightly under pressure. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards took no further action other than to advise Jockey W H Lao the rider of 10 Master Of Mars that in similar circumstances in future, he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident which took place between the 900 metres and until leaving the 800 metres where 1 Lucky Pearl was buffeted between runners for a considerable distance, clipped heels and had to be checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Lucky Pearl (K H Yu), 3 Win Win Hooray (F Henrique), 5 Silent Height (Y M Choi), 10 Master Of Mars (W H Lao) and 12 Sport General (S Nakano). Jockey S Nakano the rider of 12 Sport General pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 900 metres he permitted his mount to shift out and made heavy contact with 1 Lucky Pearl which in turn was taken out and made contact with the hindquarters of 5 Silent Height. As a result 1 Lucky Pearl was then severely buffeted for some distance when crowded for room between 12 Sport General and 5 Silent Height and was checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey S Nakano’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 racemeetings covering the meetings of Saturday, 23 May and Friday, 29 May 2020 and he was issued a fine of HKD9,000 in lieu of an additional racemeeting. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his poor riding record, the degree of the interference and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
It was further established that as a progression from the incident near the 900 metres 1 Lucky Pearl which continued to be buffeted between 12 Sport General and 5 Silent Height, then had to be checked and clipped the heels of 12 Sport General when further tightened for room between 12 Sport General which was taken out slightly by 10 Master Of Mars which shifted out marginally and 5 Silent Height which was taken in slightly by 3 Win Win Hooray which shifted in when not fully clear. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards issued Jockey F Henrique the rider of 3 Win Win Hooray with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift ground when not fully clear. Jockey W H Lao the rider of 10 Master Of Mars was also advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
