Race Report

RACE-4 THE TAISHAN RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1200 METRES (208)

1 Premier Choice (K H Yu) -Approaching the 600 metres commenced to hang out. Approaching the 100 metres had to be checked. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Ready Fire (B Yamzon) -Held up rounding the home turn.
5 Hostwin Euphoria (J B Hamel) -Jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped 11 Golden Bullseye. Raced wide without cover throughout. Near the 450 metres was bumped by 9 Take The Cake which shifted out to improve.
6 Wealthy East (D Barros) -Shifted out under pressure leaving the 200 metres.
7 Chappo (W L Ho) -Bumped by 10 Yings Fans at the start.
8 Kelvin's Choice (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Leaving the 1100 metres had to be eased when momentarily racing in restricted room between 7 Chappo which was laying in and 12 Sport General which when racing fiercely shifted out and away from 6 Wealthy East which was also laying out. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and near the 750 metres had to be steadied away from the heels of 2 Colonel Mordaunt. Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight was unable to establish clear running until approaching the 200 metres. Leaving the 200 metres was then disappointed for a run between 2 Colonel Mordaunt and 4 Special Charger which was taken out slightly by 6 Wealthy East which rolled out under pressure. Was then obliged to shift out around the heels of 2 Colonel Mordaunt to obtain clear running. The Stewards advised Jockey D Barros the rider of 6 Wealthy East to exercise more care
9 Take The Cake (C F Chan) -Near the 250 metres had to be checked between 5 Hostwin Euphoria which after initially hanging out, shifted in before being corrected by its rider and 3 Ready Fire which shifted out. After considering all of the circumstances in particular the racing manners of 5 Hostwin Euphoria, the Stewards took no other action other than to severely reprimand Jockey B Yamzon the rider of 3 Ready Fire for permitting his mount to shift out when not fully clear of 9 Take The Cake and he was advised that in similar circumstances in future he is to ensure he is sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground. The Stewards also advised Jockey J B Hamel the rider of 5 Hostwin Euphoria to exercise more care in that although his mount’s racing manners had contributed to this incident, he would be expected to correct his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
10 Yings Fans (S Nakano) -Bumped 7 Chappo on jumping away and shortly after the start was tightened for room between 7 Chappo and 8 Kelvin's Choice which shifted out. When the pace of the race steadied leaving the 500 metres raced up onto the heels of 12 Sport General and had to be checked. Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight was unable to establish clear running until near the 150 metres.
11 Golden Bullseye (T Appie) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
12 Sport General (W H Lao) -Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and near the 750 metres had to be eased away from the heels of 7 Chappo. Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight had some difficulty in establishing clear running until near the 200 metres. Over the concluding stages, had to be steadied when momentarily racing in restricted room between 6 Wealthy East which shifted in and away from 2 Colonel Mordaunt and 7 Chappo which shifted out slightly.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 100 metres where 1 Premier Choice had to be checked. Evidence was taken from 1 Premier Choice (K H Yu) and 8 Kelvin's Choice (Apprentice C L Cheung). Apprentice C L Cheung the rider of 8 Kelvin's Choice pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approaching the 100 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of 1 Premier Choice which had to be checked. Apprentice C L Cheung’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering the meetings of Saturday, 20 June and Sunday, 28 June 2020. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
