RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey D Barros the rider of 1 Express Pony being placed 2nd by the Judge against 4 Mission Dragon (W L Ho) being declared the winner alleging interference over the final 50 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey D Barros in the presence of Mr. K S Wong the trainer of 1 Express Pony and Jockey W L Ho in the presence of Mr. I K Chang, Assistant Trainer representing Mr. Pat Lee the trainer of 4 Mission Dragon. After considering all of the evidence, it was established that leaving the 50 metres 4 Mission Dragon shifted out under pressure and brushed 1 Express Pony. It was then established that over the final 40 metres 1 Express Pony was severely hampered when bumped by 4 Mission Dragon on two occasions which continued to shift out under pressure resulting in 1 Express Pony being forced wider on the track, becoming unbalanced and Jockey D Barros having to check his mount becoming unbalanced in the saddle. Given the official margin of a head between the two runners at the finish, the Stewards were of the opinion that had the interference not taken place 1 Express Pony would have finished ahead of 4 Mission Dragon and therefore upheld the objection and amended the Judge’s placings as follows:
1st 1 Express Pony (D Barros)
2nd 4 Mission Dragon (W L Ho)
3rd 6 Die Casting Alloy (K H Yu)
4th 5 My Golden Boy (Apprentice C L Cheung)
At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey W L Ho the rider of 4 Mission Dragon pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that over the final 50 metres whilst riding his mount along, he permitted 4 Mission Dragon to shift out making heavy contact with 1 Express Pony on two occasions, resulting in 1 Express Pony being forced wider on the track, becoming unbalanced and had to be checked by its rider D Barros who also became unbalanced in the saddle. Jockey W L Ho’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 racemeetings, covering the meeting of 11 & 19 July 2020. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
