Race Report

RACE-5 THE PORTO ALEGRE 4YO (RATING 60-35) 1800 METRES (240)

1 Fantastic Friends (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Near the 700 metres had to be checked away from the heels of 7 which when unbalanced in the going lost ground. Leaving the 500 metres had to be steadied and shifted inwards to avoid the heels of 5 Diamond Gold which was yielding ground quickly. Sustained a small laceration to its right fore fetlock.
4 So Yummy (K H Yu) -Leaving the winning post on the first occasion had to be steadied away from the heels of 7 Eclair Boom which shifted in and away from 5 Diamond Gold which was shifting in at an acute angle when not fully clear. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards issued Jockey J B Hamel with a severe reprimand and was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in future. Near the 750 metres had to be steadied when tightened for room between 6 Garlic And Cayenne and 7 Eclair Boom which shifted out after becoming unbalanced in the going.
5 Diamond Gold (J B Hamel) -Leaving the 1500 metres when the pace of the race slowed, raced fiercely on the heels of 3 Crown Of Gold for some distance and had to be steadied. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Garlic And Cayenne (Y M Choi) -Raced wide without cover throughout out.
7 Eclair Boom (S Ladjadj) -Prior to the race Trainer P Leyshan advised Stewards that he would be instructing Jockey S Ladjadj from the good draw to have the horse in a forward position should circumstances permit. Approaching the 1200 metres was inclined to hang in and made contact with the running rail. Leaving the 800 metres was unbalanced in the going and shifted in making contact with the running rail of its own accord and had to be checked. 1 Fantastic Friends which was following was checked in consequence. Leaving the 500 metres blundered in the going, shifted in and made contact with the running rail. Rider reported his mount never traveled in today’s heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
