Race Report

RACE-4 THE CHERRY BLOSSOM RATING 70-45 (CLASS 3) 1050 METRES (263)

1 Grexit (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out bumping 7 Northern Legend. After bumping with 7 Northern Legend was then inclined to shift inwards and had to be steadied away from the heels of 3 Electroplate Alloy which at the same time shifted out. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards issued Jockey K H Yu the rider of 3 Electroplate Alloy a severe reprimand and he was advised that in similar circumstances in future he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground when not fully clear. Raced fiercely in the middle stages. Near the 600 metres was inclined to shift out across the heels of 3 Electroplate Alloy and had to be steadied.
2 Stadium (F Henrique) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
4 Gunstigmaster (W H Lao) -When questioned regarding his failure to ride his mount out fully to the finish of the race, Jockey W H Lao stated that near the 25 metres his mount began to shorten its stride and got its head up. He added that as he had some concerns and was of the opinion that 4 Gunstigmaster was weakening, he elected not to ride it out fully over the concluding stages. Whilst Stewards on this occasion noted his explanation, he was nevertheless severely reprimanded for failing to report his concerns immediately after the race as required under the rules. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer C W Choi was informed to present 4 Gunstigmaster to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Saturday, 13 June 2020.
