RACE-4 CHAIRMAN MEMORIAL CUP (GROUP 1) OPEN 1200 METRES (311)
1 Sacred Capital (W L Ho) -Was slow to begin. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
2 Sheng Li Superstar (L Corrales) -Near the 150 metres had to be checked. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Rider reported that his mount travelled well and responded briefly when under pressure on entering the home straight, however was one paced thereafter. He further added that in his opinion 2 Sheng Li Superstar was unsuited by the drop back in distance from the 1500 metres to today’s distance of 1200 metres and this contributed to today’s performance.
3 Pearl Green (J B Hamel) -Near the 150 metres was hampered when taken out by 6 Mountain Tiger which in turn was taken out by 10 Crispy Biscuit.
4 Mister Kaopu (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Raced wide without cover throughout and near the 750 laid in and bumped 10 Crispy Biscuit. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Lover Paradise (K H Yu) -Near the 150 metres had to be steadied away from the heels of 2 Sheng Li Superstar which lost ground when being checked.
6 Mountain Tiger (F Henrique) -Was fractious in the barriers, was subsequently taken out of its stall and underwent an veterinary examination. Was passed fit to race by the Veterinary Surgeon. Trainer K M Chin was informed that a warning had been placed against 6 Mountain Tiger for its barrier manners. Near the 150 metres was hampered when taken out by 10 Crispy Biscuit.
8 Bring Me Speed (W H Lao) -Approaching the 900 metres had to be eased away from the heels of 7 Fortune Treasure which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey S Nakano the rider of 7 Fortune Treasure was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground in future. Raced fiercely in the middle stages.
11 Royal Good Friend (S Ladjadj) -Reared as the start was effected and made contact with the inside barrier partition. Trainer W Smith was informed that a warning had been placed against 11 Royal Good Friend for its racing manners.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 150 metres where 2 Sheng Li Superstar had to be checked and 6 Mountain Tiger, 3 Pearl Green and 10 Crispy Biscuit were hampered. Evidence was taken from 8 Bring Me Speed (W H Lao), 2 Sheng Li Superstar (L Corrales), 10 Crispy Biscuit (H Lam),
6 Mountain Tiger (F Henrique) and 3 Pearl Green (J B Hamel). Jockey W H Lao the rider of 8 Bring Me Speed pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 150 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of 2 Sheng Li Superstar which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. He then continued to permit 8 Bring Me Speed to shift out making contact with 10 Crispy Biscuit which in turn was taken out onto 6 Mountain Tiger which was hampered when taken outwards, resulting in 3 Pearl Green also being hampered when shifting out away from the heels of 6 Mountain Tiger. Jockey W H Lao’s license to ride in races was suspended for 2 racemeetings covering the meeting of Friday, 24 July 2020 and Sunday, 26 July 2020, in addition he was issued a fine of HK$10,000 in lieu of 1 additional racemeeting. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey W H Lao’s guilty plea, his riding record, the degree of interference and that all jockeys were placed on notice that Group 1 events today would incur a more severe penalty with regards to interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
