Race Report

RACE-5 THE LENS RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1500 METRES (105)

1 The Prime Fortune (S Nakano) -Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that 1 The Prime Fortune will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
3 Joyful Bear (S Ladjadj) -Was slow to begin and lost ground. Trainer M C Tam was informed that a warning would be placed on 3 Joyful Bear in regards to its barrier manners. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Luen On Prodigy (F Henrique) -Was held up on entering the home straight and was unable to obtain clear running until near the 150 metres.
5 Master Paradise (M Tanaka) -Approaching the 200 metres shifted in slightly and was brushed by 9 Dare To Be which at the same time shifted out slightly. Was then taken wider on the track by 9 Dare To Be which shifted out under pressure whilst being ridden along.
6 Pride Sprint (H Lam) -Near the 250 metres was disappointed for a run between 8 Qipao Queen and 12 House Of Power.
7 Fortune Giant (B Yamzon) -Raced wide without cover until the 750 metres.
8 Qipao Queen (D Barros) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
11 General Fu Hao (C L Cheung) - Leaving the 1400 metres raced ungenerously for some distance when awkwardly placed on the heels of 12 House Of Power. Thereafter continued to race ungenerously for some distance. Checked near the 100 metres.
12 House Of Power (K H Yu) -Near the 1250 metres commenced to race ungenerously and then had to be steadied when momentarily racing in restricted room between 7 Fortune Giant and 8 Qipao Queen which shifted out slightly when laying out. As the Stewards deemed this a racing incident no further action was taken. Leaving the 300 metres had some difficulty in obtaining clear running until near the 200 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored and at the same time the Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey M Takana, the rider 5 Master Paradise (2nd placed horse) against the 9 Dare To Be (W L Ho) being declared the winner by the Judge for alleging interference over the final 200 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey M Tanaka and Mr. K M Chin the trainer of 5 Master Paradise and Jockey W L Ho and Mr. S Chow the trainer of 9 Dare To Be. After considering the evidence and reviewing the patrols films, it was established that approaching the 200 metres 5 Master Paradise shifted in slightly and the same time 9 Dare To Be shifted out slightly, resulting in both horses brushing. Thereafter for some distance approaching the 100 metres 5 Master Paradise was taken wider on the track by 9 Dare To Be which shifted out under pressure whilst being ridden along. After considering all of the evidence and taking into account the beaten margin and the manner in which both horses were finishing off the race, the Stewards could not be satisfied that had the interference not taken place, that 5 Master Paradise would have finished ahead of 9 Dare To Be, they therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. Jockey W L Ho the rider of 9 Dare To Be was issued with a severe reprimand and was advised that he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount in similar circumstances in future.

The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 100 metres where 11 General Fu Hao was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 11 General Fu Hao (C L Cheung) and 4 Luen On Prodigy (F Henrique). Jockey F Henrique the rider of 4 Luen On Prodigy pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 11 General Fu Hao which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey F Henrique’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of one racemeeting covering the meeting of Saturday, 20 February 2021. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Jockey F Henrique’s guilty plea, his disciplinary record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
