Race Report

RACE-2 THE CALCUTTA RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1350 METRES (233)

1 Smart Arrow (K H Yu) ¬-Was restless in the barriers and on jumping away brushed with 4 Bring Me Power. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 The Happy Prince (C L Cheung) ¬-Approaching the 400 metres shifted out slightly and bumped with 7 Trophy Cabinet which at the same time shifted in slightly when laying in. On entering the home straight had to be steadied when momentarily racing in restricted room between 4 Bring Me Power which shifted out and 7 Trophy Cabinet which shifted in slightly when inclined to lay in. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards issued Jockey D Barros the rider of 4 Bring Me Power with a severe reprimand and he was advised that he would be expected to be sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground in future. In addition, the Stewards advised Jockey S Nakano the rider of 7 Trophy Cabinet to exercise more care in similar circumstances. A post race veterinary examination revealed that 2 The Happy Prince was severely lame in the left foreleg. Trainer M C Tam was informed that 2 The Happy Prince will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that the gelding has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial and a veterinary certificate is produced.
3 Vibrant City (T Appie) -Raced fiercely in the early stages.
5 River Unicorn (L Corrales) -Raced wide without cover for the majority. Near the 750 metres brushed with 7 Trophy Cabinet. On entering the home straight was eased outwards when awkwardly place on the heels of 7 Trophy Cabinet.
6 Ashkari (M Tanaka) -Was slow to begin.
7 Trophy Cabinet (S Nakano) -Was marginally slow to begin. Near the 750 metres shifted out slightly and brushed with 5 River Unicorn. Approaching the 400 metres when inclined to lay in, shifted in and bumped 2 The Happy Prince which at the same time shifted out slightly. On entering the home straight continued to lay in and had to be corrected by its rider.
9 Prevenient Grace (Y M Choi) -Was marginally slow to begin. Near the 500 metres was eased away from the heels of 1 Smart Arrow which shifted out when not fully clear. Jockey K H Yu the rider of 1 Smart Arrow was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
