Race Report

RACE-1 THE NAPIER RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1200 METRES (47)

1 Express Pony (Y M Choi) -Over the concluding stages was brushed by 6 House Of Power which shifted out around the heels of 5 Yiu Cheung Prince to improve.
2 Go Fish Go (B Yamzon) -Bumped with 6 House Of Power on jumping away. Near the 750 metres bumped with 6 House Of Power. Raced wide without cover from the 500 metres.
3 Wealthy Land (L Corrales) -Near 150 metres blundered. Approaching the 50 metres was inclined to lay out under pressure and was momentarily eased away from the heels of 1 Express Pony.
4 River Exquisite (K H Yu) -Was slow to begin.
6 House Of Power (M Tanaka) -Bumped with 2 Go Fish Go on jumping away. Raced fiercely in the early stages and was checked near the 850 metres. Near the 750 metres bumped with 2 Go Fish Go. Was held up in the early stages of the home straight and was unable to establish clear running until near the 200 metres. Over the concluding stages shifted out around the heels of 5 Yiu Cheung Prince to improve and in doing so brushed 1 Express Pony.
7 Yatholing (T Appie) -Stood flat footed of its own accord as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer K H Leong was informed that 7 Yatholing will not be permitted to race for 11 days until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. Jockey T Appie was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out fully to the finish. In determining not to issue a more severe penalty, the Stewards were satisfied that it had no bearing on the overall placing of the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards the opportunity to review the video patrol films of the start to ascertain whether 7 Yatholing (T Appie) had been afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected 7 Yatholing stood flat footed of its own accord and lost considerable ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that 7 Yatholing had been afforded a fair start, it was deemed a starter and correct weight was declared.

The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 850 metres where 6 House Of Power was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Express Pony (Y M Choi) and 6 House Of Power (M Tanaka).
Jockey Y M Choi the rider of 1 Express Pony pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 850 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 6 House Of Power which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey Y M Choi was issued a monetary fine of HK$4,000 in lieu of a two racemeeting suspension. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
