Race Report

RACE-2 THE COLUMBUS RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1050 METRES (160)

1 Kelvin's Choice (S Nakano) -Leaving the 1000 metres was eased when momentarily racing in restricted room between 5 Harbour Wisdom which shifted out whilst being ridden along and 9 Canton Rose which when racing greenly was inclined to lay in and away from 6 God Of War. After considering all of the circumstances, Apprentice X C Liang the rider of 5 Harbour Wisdom was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Near the 200 metres was checked when tightened for room between 5 Harbour Wisdom which shifted out whilst being ridden along before being corrected by its rider and 6 God Of War which at the same time also shifted in slightly before being corrected by its rider. After considering all of the circumstances Jockey C L Cheung the rider of 6 God Of War was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances and Apprentice X C Liang the rider of 5 Harbour Wisdom was severely reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances, he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
2 River Arrow (B Yamzon) -Was buffeted on jumping away between 3 Winter Typhoon and 6 God Of War, both of which shifted ground slightly.
4 Sheng Li Star (Apprentice Tesuri) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
5 Harbour Wisdom (Apprentice X C Liang) -Was inclined to shift out under pressure in the home straight.
6 God Of War (C L Cheung) -Near the 75 metres shifted in slightly under pressure and was then momentarily eased when racing close to the heels of 5 Harbour Wisdom which at the same time shifted out slightly under pressure. Near the 25 metres again shifted in slightly under pressure and was then checked when awkwardly placed on the heels of 5 Harbour Wisdom which at the same time shifted out under pressure.
7 Mongolian Mok (H Lam) -Was fractious in the barriers and then stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer W H Tse was informed 7 Mongolian Mok will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Wealthy Diamond (A A Rivera) -Proved difficult to proceed to the start. Trainer S Chow was informed that in view of the pre race manners of 8 Wealthy Diamond it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it proceeds to the barriers to the Stewards’ satisfaction at an official Barrier Trial. On arrival at the barriers underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Jumped away awkwardly and was then slow into stride.
9 Canton Rose (S H Huang) -Raced greenly in the middle stages and for some distance near the 600 metres raced ungenerously.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored and at the same time the Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey C L Cheung the rider of 6 God Of War (2nd placed horse) against 5 Harbour Wisdom (Apprentice X C Liang) being declared the winner for
alleging interference over the final 100 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey C L Cheung and Mr. K M Chin the trainer of 6 God Of War and Apprentice X C Liang and Mr. W L Ho the trainer of 5 Harbour Wisdom. It was established that near the 75 metres 6 God Of War shifted in slightly under pressure and was then momentarily eased when racing close to the heels of 5 Harbour Wisdom which at the same time shifted out slightly under pressure. Then near the 25 metres 6 God Of War again shifted in slightly under pressure and was then checked when awkwardly placed on the heels of 5 Harbour Wisdom which at the same time shifted out under pressure. As the Stewards were satisfied that there was a contributing shift from both horses, the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placing.
