Race Report

RACE-1 THE JACKSONVILLE RATING 45-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1200 METRES (176)

1 City Gold Lodge (L Corrales) -Shifted out on jumping away. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 300 metres was inclined to lay out under pressure. Approaching the 100 metres brushed with 4 Carry On For Ages. Rider reported he was instructed to take up a handy position, however from the wide draw he had to make use of 1 City Gold Lodge in the early stages to obtain a position outside of the leader 6 Sievert. He added that approaching the 900 metres 1 City Gold Lodge commenced to race fiercely and proved difficult to settle despite his efforts and continued to race fiercely until entering the home straight where 1 City Gold Lodge failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. He further added that in his opinion 1 City Gold Lodge’s tendency to race fiercely contributed to its performance today. A post race swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K M Chin was informed that he would be required to present 1 City Gold Lodge to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Monday, 14 March 2022.
3 River Pentium (K H Yu) -Was slow to begin. Near the 700 metres was eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 4 Carry On For Ages which shifted in slightly. Approaching the 100 metres shifted out under pressure and brushed 7 God Of War.
4 Carry On For Ages (S Nakano) -Checked leaving the 200 metres. Whilst being checked rider accidently lost the use of his right rein for a short distance, resulting in Jockey S Nakano becoming unbalanced in the saddle and brushing with 1 City Gold Lodge approaching the 100 metres.
5 City Gold Saint (C L Cheung) -For some distance near the 750 metres raced greenly.
6 Sievert (Apprentice X C Liang) -Bumped with 8 Happy Cat on jumping away.
7 God Of War (M Tanaka) -Approaching and passing the 800 metres raced fiercely when awkwardly placed on the heels of 8 Happy Cat. Near the 500 metres raced up onto the heels of 8 Happy Cat and had to be steadied. Raced wide rounding the home turn. Approaching the 100 metres was brushed by 3 River Pentium which shifted out under pressure.
8 Happy Cat (W H Lao) -Bumped with 6 Sievert on jumping away. On entering the home straight when racing greenly shifted in abruptly and had to be steadied.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the 200 metres where 4 Carry On For Ages was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 City Gold Lodge (L Corrales), 2 Finance Time (K F Choi) and 4 Carry On For Ages (S Nakano). Jockey K F Choi the rider of 2 Finance Time pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the 200 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of 4 Carry On For Ages which had to be checked. Jockey K F Choi’s license to ride in races was suspended for 1 racemeeting covering the meeting of Saturday, 9 April 2022. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his riding record, his guilty plea and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
