Race Report

RACE-1 THE YOKOHAMA RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1200 METRES (292)

1 Famous Bonus (C L Cheung) -Near the 250 metres was shifted out across the heels of 4 Rivalry and 6 City Gold Lodge to obtain clear running. Near the 150 metres was momentarily inconvenienced by 6 City Gold Lodge which shifted out under pressure before being corrected by its rider. Then just prior to the winning post was brushed by 6 City Gold Lodge which again shifted out under pressure.
2 Small Waterfall (H Lam) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Heat Of The Battle (Apprentice X C Liang) -Was slow to begin. Near the 750 metres brushed the running rail.
4 Rivalry (S Nakano) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
5 Romantique (T Appie) -Was slow to begin. For some distance near the 750 metres was inclined to lay out. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 City Gold Lodge (K H Yu) -Shortly after the start was inconvenienced by 4 Rivalry which was inclined to lay out and away from 7 Foxy Rocket. Leaving the 1100 metres when being shifted in, raced ungenerously for a short distance and blundered. Near the 150 metres shifted out under pressure and had to be corrected by its rider. Over the concluding stages shifted out under pressure and brushed 1 Famous Bonus.
7 Foxy Rocket (M Tanaka) -Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. Near the 500 metres raced up onto the heels of 1 Famous Bonus, was steadied and shifted wider on the track to improve.
9 River Arrow (L Corrales) -Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground, then when eventually leaving the barriers, shifted outwards abruptly on jumping away. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that 9 River Arrow will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. Rider reported that his mount stood flat footed at the start and when eventually leaving the gates had a tendency to shift out abruptly to the outside running rail. He added that as a result of this, he then elected to ease 9 River Arrow out of the race.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry” Sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards an opportunity to review the patrol films of the start to establish whether 9 River Arrow (L Corrales) had been afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected 9 River Arrow stood flat footed of its own accord and lost considerable ground. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards were satisfied that 9 River Arrow had been afforded a fair start and declared it a starter.

The Stewards also considered an objection lodged by Jockey C L Cheung the rider of 1 Famous Bonus (2nd placed horse) against 6 City Gold Lodge (K H Yu) being declared the winner by the Judge for alleging interference in the home straight. Evidence was taken from Mr. Y C Fung the trainer of 1 Famous Bonus and Jockey C L Cheung and Mr. W L Ho the trainer of 6 City Gold Lodge and Jockey K H Yu. It was established near the 150 metres 1 Famous Bonus was momentarily inconvenienced by 6 City Gold Lodge which shifted out under pressure before being corrected by its rider. Then just prior to the winning post 1 Famous Bonus was brushed by 6 City Gold Lodge which again shifted out under pressure. After considering all the evidence and in particular the beaten margin of half a length, the Stewards could not be satisfied that had the interference not occurred 1 Famous Bonus would have beaten 6 City Gold Lodge, therefore they dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
