Race Report

RACE-3 THE JUNK BAY RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1200 METRES (337)

1 Cumberbatch (M Tanaka) -Near the 750 metres was bumped by 8 Sheng Tong Star on two occasions which shifted out after bumping with 5 Monsignor. Was steadied near the 500 metres.
4 Run To Perfection (W H Lao) -Was slow to begin. Near the 600 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 11 Luen On Prosperity which shifted in slightly away from 2 Diamond Rivers which in turn shifted in slightly. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
5 Monsignor (Y M Choi) -Was slow to begin. Near the 750 metres buffeted with 8 Sheng Tong Star after that runner shifted in and away from 1 Cumberbatch when racing fiercely.
6 Famous Talent (C L Cheung) -Rounding the home turn shifted out to improve and brushed with 7 Sheng Tong Express.
7 Sheng Tong Express (S Nakano) -Rounding the home turn was brushed by 6 Famous Talent which shifted out around 12 River Pentium to improve.
8 Sheng Tong Star (A A Rivera) -For some distance approaching and passing the 800 metres raced fiercely and near the 700 metres shifted in and away from 1 Cumberbatch and bumped with 5 Monsignor. Shortly after was then buffeted between 1 Cumberbatch and 5 Monsignor which shifted out. As the Stewards deemed this a racing incident, no action was taken.
9 Diamond Moonlight (H Lam) -Was checked near the 500 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 Armed (K F Choi) -Near the 200 metres shifted in under pressure and then had to be shifted out and away from the heels of 7 Sheng Tong Express which at the same time shifted out slightly under pressure.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 500 metres where 9 Diamond Moonlight was checked and 1 Cumberbatch was steadied. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Cumberbatch (M Tanaka), 5 Monsignor (Y M Choi), 8 Sheng Tong Star (A A Rivera) and 9 Diamond Moonlight (H Lam). Jockey Y M Choi the rider of 5 Monsignor was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 500 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of 8 Sheng Tong Star which was taken out onto 9 Diamond Moonlight which had to be checked and in turn shifted out onto 1 Cumberbatch which had to be steadied. Jockey Y M Choi’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering the 4th and 5th racemeetings of the 2022/2023 Racing Season with dates to be advised. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Jockey Y M Choi’s riding record and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
