Race Report

RACE-2 THE FUSHUN RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (14)

3 City Gold Master (C L Cheung) -Shortly after straightening shifted in and became unbalanced. Approaching and passing the 300 metres was severely checked by 10 Fortune Wai Wai which shifted in when not clear. Approaching the winning post when improving had to be steadied when tightened for room between 5 Nice Bird Song which shifted out slightly and 10 Fortune Wai Wai which shifted in slightly. Both Jockeys M Tanaka the rider of 5 Nice Bird Song and S H Huang the rider of 10 Fortune Wai Wai were advised to exercise greater care when in similar circumstances in future.
6 Run On Perfection (B Yamzon) -Commenced awkwardly unbalancing its rider. Approaching the 200 metres had to be steadied from the heels of 7 Half Lamma Rainbow which was weakening.
8 Mountain Eagle (S Nakano) -Raced three wide without cover throughout. Unplaced favourite. Rider reported that his mount raced wide and failed to respond to his riding in the home straight.
9 Lucky Star (L Corrales) -Prior to the race, the connections informed the Stewards that due to the wide barrier draw, they will attempt to settle 9 Lucky Star back today. Settled at the rear of the field.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards an opportunity to review the footage of the home straight.

Prior to correct weight the Stewards viewed the footage of an incident in the home straight before lodging an objection on behalf of the connections of 5th horse past the post 3 City Gold Master (C L Cheung) against the 3rd horse past the post 10 Fortune Wai Wai (S H Huang) for alleged interference passing the 300 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 3 City Gold Master and 10 Fortune Wai Wai and their respective trainers Mr. S H Cheong and C W Choi. It was established that for some distance approaching and passing the 300 metres 10 Fortune Wai Wai shifted in resulting in 3 City Gold Master having to be severely checked. Bearing in mind the margins, the severity of the interference and the manner in which both horses finished off the race, the Stewards were of the opinion that had the interference not occurred 3 City Gold Master would have finished ahead of 10 Fortune Wai Wai, therefore the objection was upheld and the Judge’s placings amended to read as follow:

2nd 12 Grande Fortune (Apprentice X C Liang)
3rd 5 Nice Bird Song (M Tanaka)
4th 3 City Gold Master (C L Cheung)
5th 10 Fortune Wai Wai (S H Huang)

At a later inquiry Jockey S H Huang the rider of 10 Fortune Wai Wai pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i). Jockey S H Huang’s was issued a fine of HK$8,000 in lieu of a two racemeeting suspension. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea and all relevant circumstances. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
