Race Report

RACE-1 THE SZUCHUAN (TURF) (Div.1) RATING 50-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1200 METRES (118)

1 Harapan (K F Choi)- Was slightly slow to begin and then checked when tightened for room between 9 Ocean Warrior which was taken out by 10 For Community and 2 Fortune Paradise which was taken in by 5 Precious Asset.
2 Fortune Paradise (M Tanaka)- Was a little slow to begin and was then hampered when tightened for room between 1 Harapan and 5 Precious Asset which shifted in. As a result lost some ground.
4 Ventures Elite (Apprentice X C Liang)- Shifted out under pressure from the 150 metres.
5 Precious Asset (S Nakano)- Beaten favorite. Rider stated that his mount raced keenly in the early and middle stages and in his opinion this was detrimental to it being able to finish off the event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken for analysis.
7 Hostwin Sunlight (W H Lao)- Jockey W H Lao was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on 7 Hostwin Sunlight, in particular why he restrained the gelding to the rear of the field in the back straight, and his lack of vigour in the home straight. He explained that he was instructed to settle the gelding in a midfield position, however it was not comfortable in its action in the back straight, and for this reason he was reluctant to ride it along and as a result settled at the rear of the field. He added that he commenced to place his mount under pressure from the 600 metres, however 7 Hostwin Sunlight remained uncomfortable in its action and additionally, made a respiratory noise in the straight. Trainer Y C Fung explained that although he was not entirely satisfied with the manner in which 7 Hostwin Sunlight was ridden, he acknowledged the gelding has soundness and wind issues. He added that connections would consider whether the gelding ought undergo throat surgery to attempt to rectify the wind issue. In all the circumstances, Stewards notified Jockey W H Lao the he must ride all his mounts in such a manner to leave no room for query. Trainer Y C Fung was informed that he would be required to present 7 Hostwin Sunlight to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination and to include a endoscopic examination on Sunday, 29 January 2023.
12 Easy Ace (S H Huang)- Commenced awkwardly. Steadied when tightened for room after passing the 800 metres (see inquiry). Then had to be restrained from the heels of 5 Precious Asset. Was subsequently held up for a considerable distance rounding the home turn and until near the 250 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident after passing the 800 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 12 Easy Ace (S H Huang) and 5 Precious Asset (S Nakano). It was established that 12 Easy Ace had to be steadied when tightened for room and then restrained from the heels of 5 Precious Asset which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey S Nakano the rider 5 Precious Asset was issued a severe reprimanded and notified to ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground at all times.
