Race Report

RACE-2 THE LOS ANGELES (DIV-2) RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (124)

2 City Gold Spirit (W H Lao)- Raced keenly in the back straight. Passing the 1000 metres had to be steadied when racing in restricted room and brushed 6 Winnie Star. Performed below market expectation. Rider could offer no genuine excuses for the performance today. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken for analysis.
3 Numberone Mingxuan (K H Yu)- Beaten in excess of 27 lengths. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that 3 Numberone Mingxuan will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
4 Blasting Power (L Corrales)- Raced wide before obtaining a position one off the fence approaching the 600 metres.
5 Golden Wai (S H Huang)- Was a little slow to begin and was then bumped outwards by 8 Midnight Cigar, which taken out by 12 Foxy Rocket. As a result had to be steadied from the heels of 4 Blasting Power. Raced four wide without cover.
6 Winnie Star (Apprentice X C Liang)- Shortly after the start was steadied when tightened for room between 2 City Gold Spirit and 10 Carry On For Ages which shifted out when laying out. Passing the 1000 metres became unbalanced when bumped by 2 City Gold Spirit. Around the 350 metres shifted out to obtain clear running and brushed 12 Foxy Rocket. Had a tendency to shift out under pressure in the straight and passing the winning post bumped 12 Foxy Rocket. Apprentice Jockey X C Liang was notified to exercise greater care.
7 Big Handsome (S Nakano)- Jockey S Nakano the rider of 7 Big Handsome was questioned regarding his vigour rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. He stated that his mount was laying in and giving ground, and for this reason, although he did use his whip and slapped his mount down the shoulder, he felt his mount did not respond to his riding and rode it hands and heels over the final 200 metres.
8 Midnight Cigar (Apprentice A Liu)- On jumping was inconvenienced by 12 Foxy Rocket which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Beaten in excess of 33 lengths. Trainer G Allendorf was informed that 8 Midnight Cigar will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
9 Aeras (K F Choi)- Pulled hard through the middle stages. Laid out in the straight.
10 Carry On For Ages (M Tanaka)- Jockey M Tanaka was questioned as to whether he could have improved closer to the leader rounding the home turn. He explained that his mount was laying out and off the bit from around the 600 metres and that he was urging it along in an attempt to improve closer to the leader, however, the gelding was somewhat unbalanced and did not respond to his riding as well as he would have expected.
11 Goal Achiever (M Alvarez)- Commenced awkwardly with its head up and brushed 1 Aeroport.
