Race Report

RACE-5 THE BOSTON (Div.1) RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1510 METRES (132)

3 Galaxy Warship (L Corrales)- Passing the 700 metres was eased to avoid the heels of 8 Happy Happy Happy which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
4 Lucky To Win (K F Choi)- Brushed the side of the barrier stall on jumping and was slow to begin (1L). Leaving the straight on the first occasion was bumped by 8 Happy Happy Happy and forced wider.
5 Yatholing (S Nakano)- On jumping away was bumped by 2 Falcoshow and raced tight for a short distance.
6 Nice Bird Song (B Yamzon)- Went amiss passing the 1000 metres and was eased out of the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed that 6 Nice Bird Song was lame in the left foreleg. Trainer K H Leong was informed that 6 Nice Bird Song will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that a veterinary certificate is produced,
7 Pitigliano (K H Yu)- Was bumped by 1 Courier Specialty on jumping away and then raced tight with 5 Yatholing for a short distance. Leaving the straight on the first occasion was checked and lost ground (see inquiry). Tailed off and was beaten 48 lengths. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that 7 Pitigliano will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Happy Happy Happy (M Tanaka)- Leaving the straight on the first occasion was bumped on the hindquarters and became very unbalanced.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the straight on the first occasion. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 Falcoshow (A A Rivera) and 7 Pitigliano (K H Yu).

Jockey A A Rivera the rider of 2 Falcoshow was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the straight on the first occasion, he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in resulting in 7 Pitigliano having to be checked and losing its rightful running. When being checked 7 Pitigliano then shifted out across the heels of 2 Falcoshow and made heavy contact with 8 Happy Happy Happy and lost further ground. In this incident 4 Lucky To Win was bumped by 8 Happy Happy Happy and taken wider. Jockey A A Rivera’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of one racemeeting covering the meeting of Saturday, 18 February 2023. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Jockey A A Rivera’s record, the degree of interference and all mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
