Race Report

RACE-2 THE BUFFALO (SAND) (Div.2) RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1350 METRES (144)

1 Charity Gold (W H Lao) -Got its head up and laid out rounding the turn near the 1000 metres.
2 Harapan (Apprentice A Liu) -Bumped the side of the barrier stall on jumping and unbalanced the rider, then brushed 1 Charity Gold.
3 Iu Cheong Master (L Corrales) -Beaten favorite. Rider L Corrales stated that he was expecting to lead in tonight’s event. However, from the wide alley his mount was caught wide and as he was unable to take up a forward position. He said he then elected to steady and obtain cover in the back straight. He added that 3 Iu Cheong Master appeared to resent the kickback and dropped the bit, and then laid out and away from 1 Charity Gold rounding the turn approaching the 400 metres. He said 3 Iu Cheong Master laid out badly rounding the home turn, however finished the race off fairly after straightening. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A post race swab was taken for analysis.
8 Numberone Mingxuan (Y M Choi) -Jockey Y M Choi was questioned regarding his riding rounding the home turn and in the straight in particular his apparent lack of vigor. He said that although his mount had previously raced successfully on the sand track, it would be better suited on a rain affected turf track at this point in its racing career. He added that 8 Numberone Mingxuan was off the bit for much of the race despite him slapping it down the shoulder with the whip. Jockey Y M Choi was notified that he must display more vigor than he did on this occasion when in similar circumstances.
